Default Why Get Sleeved? This is why!!

On here I frequently hear people asking why should they get the sleeve? Why did we make this decision? Should they go through with it? Can't they just lose the weight on their own? I know personally I could not. I was a very active fat person. I could usually out exercise most of my skinny friends. I was an active member of a boot camp group, competed in obstacle races such as the Tough Mudder and Spartan run, would run almost daily anywhere from 3-8 miles. I just had a big appetite. I could lose some weight and get down to about 160 (32.3 BMI for my height) but it would always creep back up the minute I exercised a bit less or couldn't be super strict with my diet.
Just thought I would share a picture from after my workout this morning. This is why I did it. To be fit, happy, and healthy. I have not looked this fabulous since before having kids. I had my first at 24. I am now 45. And I am not ashamed to say that I look amazing. I love what I see and how I feel.

    biceps.jpg

I will be 2 years post op on November 3rd. I have successfully kept off 99 lbs. I workout almost every day. I only take a break on occasion. I strength train, run, and walk. I make it a point to take the stairs and park farther away unless I am in a hurry. I have learned that I am a priority. This means I absolutely HAVE to make time to exercise and cook healthy meals. I now have an Instant Pot to help making healthy meals easier. Seriously, that thing has really simplified my life. Healthy meals are a breeze.

Bottom line...why get the sleeve?? To be a happier, healthier version of you. I would go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat. No regrets other than I would have done this YEARS ago. The sleeve helped me love myself again and I will never go back to hating myself.

Everything you said is so true, and you look amazing by the way! (I always shake my head a little when someone is more worried about a little saggy skin or hair loss or not eating like a pig than being 100 pounds overweight, but I guess if they are happy that way, who am I to say.)

I was a very active fat person too. Walked or hiked everyday. I just ate the wrong stuff; I was on the low protein high carb diet! But I do think those of us who started out active had an advantage after surgery because exercise wasn't a four letter word like it seems to so many people in my support group. Many whine a lot about how they hate to exercise.

Thanks Lisa. I am not trying to sound like I am belittling the concerns people have but if people were able to lose all this extra weight on their own then they would not even be seeking out this option.

Thanks hon. I know we are all always trying to articulate to people who ask this question the why. And really, for those of us who have done it it really is a no brainer. We are so thrilled with our new lease on life.

Thanks Carla. I kind of feel a little defensive when people ask "why" on here. I mean, obviously if they are considering the sleeve then it is something they need. Losing weight and keeping it off is a battle that we have all failed over and over again. Why do they suddenly think when they have this opportunity then suddenly they are going to be successful without it?

Yes. I do credit my skin looking so good to the fact that I exercise. I really think it helps tighten things up. And you are right, I'd much rather have some loose skin or thinner hair than be obese. You can dress around your skin and fix your hair differently...plus the hair grows back. It is not permanent. But you cannot hide being obese. It is all in your face. But truth be told, if people back out on their surgery they are only hurting themselves. That is why I always tell people it is ultimately their decision. My job is not to tell you if it is right for you. Maybe it isn't. But I can tell you that I will sing it from the rooftops how much I love being a sleeved person.
