    Default Resleeve or ds

I had a sleeve in 2009 and lost 60 pounds but wanted/needed to lose about 80-85. I kept it off for over 6 years but not in the last 18 months have added 20 back on. I am considering being Re-sleeved. I have read that resleeving isn't real successful and I should have the DS. Anyone have any experience with either of these procedures? If you've had the DS, are you happy with it? Can you tell me about long term affects. After the sleeve healed, I feel perfectly normal and that's what I want. Will I feel that way with the DS or will there be lifelong issues? Thanks for any input you can offer!

Not to be harsh, but if you weren't successful with weight loss surgery the first time, what makes you think you can do it the second time?

Is your restriction totally gone from your sleeve? For example, can you eat a whole chicken breast or big steak? I'm much less out than you (4 years in October) but know I still have total restriction when I eat what I should. (No restriction when I eat junk.)

I would think you could get those 20 pounds off by following the basic rules of the sleeve. Get in your liquids and protein. Don't drink before/after meals. Exercise. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Not sure if this is legitimate or someone just trolling the forum... definitely this has been a discussion of late in several other threads.

Either way, not reaching desired goal, dissolution and regain can certainly happen to so many... so honing in into a specific comment the original poster mentioned

After the sleeve healed, I feel perfectly normal and that's what I want.
What did this really mean? Did the feeling of normal facilitate previous eating or life behaviors to perpetuate, and what do they mean "that's what I want"?

Hopefully, you are not a troll and you can qualify what you want. And what changes or lack of changes do you think you need to happen in order for second surgery to be successful?

I've never seen any DSers here. You can check over at obesity help dot com. There's a forum of those folks there.

I just saw on the news that there's a new kind of technique for a sleeve called the accordion. The doctor sends a probe down your throat into your stomach and then stitches the stomach, somehow reducing the space. That's an alternative to consider...

I saw that too the other morning, but from I remember them saying, you could lose weight but it wasn't as much as we lose with the actual sleeve. The amount of weight the patients had to lose wasn't even 50 lbs?

I would think that if you are really serious you could get back without the need for a new surgery. Try this ----->

Just curious, is it actually physically possible to be resleeved once they have already removed 80% of your stomach? I know your stomach can stretch but can it stretch to the point that there is enough to cut off worth doing another surgery? I have never heard of someone being re-sleeved.

One member of this forum (RoDean) was re-sleeved within the past year. According to posting history, her stomach had stretched to the point of being able to accommodate more than 16+ ounces of food comfortably when she did the cottage cheese test.

I've got a question for everyone - if you overeat and get some pain, afterwards, does your stomach remain stretched out or does it retract. I know this sounds like an obvious question but I can't find a definitive answer on line. I would think it would and of course, repeated stretching on a daily basis would stretch permanently, but I just wondered if infrequent stretching remains permanent. If anyone knows, please share. Thanks.

I was sleeved in 2010. I previously had a gastric band. I gained about 30-35 pounds back. I still have restriction but yes, I am going for the DS next year. There are a lot of convert's. People who previously had a sleeve. This forum has a few old-timers but most are newbie's. Some have made the sleeve work for them. And there are those who have put on weight but stay quiet. The revision board is on Obesity dot com. One thing I have found are the gals on Obesity dot com are against going to Mexico for surgery. Many have had their surgery in the States and are very vocal about going outside the country.
Obesity dot com has a separate Mexico board, just for those who have had surgery in Mexico.

I plan on going to Mexico where I will revise to DS in the future. Your whole chemistry changes when you convert to gastric bypass or DS as both are malabsorptive surgeries so you need to investigate it thoroughly before you decide. With malabsorptive surgery your intestines are bypassed so you don't absorb the calories. And you need to take vitamins lifelong. It's not optional. Good luck with what you decide.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm still considering it and haven't made up my mind yet. I kept my weight off for six years (although I was still 25 pounds from goal) but then I went thru some very difficult times and fell back into depression. I just can't seem to stay on the eating plan now. I'm always so hungry I have no willpower. I know if I got the help of the sleeve again I could get back on track. I also know I did this to myself when I fell off my eating plann during those rough times but I've got myself back together now and I'm ready to start over.
