I'm trying to plan my diet for post-op. and got this idea (somewhere)...
Is baby food a good idea for post-op soft foods?
If so, which ones were good?
Or did you try something else?
Thank you.
Matt
Baby food doesn't contain enough protein unfortunately. At that stage I liked split pea, refried beans, soups with meat, Greek yogurt, poach egg etc...the main issue for me was that my taste did change after surgery and a few things I liked before, I couldn't eat after. No cruciferous veggies for example, or pepper bell, it would make me sick. I'm almost at 7 months, pepper bell is fine now, but still no broccoli or cauliflower! Good luck!

Are you talking about pureed or soft food stage?
For purees.....
Continue all stuff from liquid stage, including protein shakes.
Soft scrambled eggs (I added a little water to mine to make them super soft/moist)
Hummus
Refried beans
Pureed tuna salad
Broth and cream soups with unflavored protein powder added.....you can actually Puree any soup that doesn't contain pasta or rice
Pureed cauliflower
Cottage cheese
Greek yogurt (read labels, some are loaded with sugar) I just used plain Greek yogurt and flavored it with protein powder or Torani syrup
Oatmeal or cream of wheat with unflavored protein added
Creamy peanut butter
Soft food.....
All of the above plus
String cheese
Crab salad
Egg salad
All soups with unflavored protein powder - I no longer pureed them at this point
Ricotta bake
Soft fish
Soft cooked veggies
Baby foods are fine as long as you can stand the taste, but they aren't going to provide the kind of protein you need
My dietician recommended I get a couple of stage 2 baby jars to help me measure early soft food stages. It was helpful first couple of days. Each jar was about 4 measured tablespoons or about a 1/4 cup. She recommended that I have one jar worth then if I could fit two it was ok. It took me a while to work up to it. I would say now at 3 months post op I can eat about 3/4 cup of solid food max; breakfast i.e. 1/4 cup cooked oats, 2 Tp of slivered almonds and walnuts, 1 Tb of dates, 1/4 cup yogurt, sips of coffee or for other meals 2-3 oz of solid chicken or fish, then I have to wait about a half hour to an hour or more to eat vegs or a fruit.

"Today is another day to get it right!"
LOL! Yeah, two years ago I thought the same thing -- maybe baby food would be a simple solution for the "soft foods" phase.
Nuh-uh! By the time you get to that point you will be able to eat actual soft food. And you will definitely WANT to eat real food that's soft.
BTW, have you tasted baby food? Yuck!
Others' suggestions above are good ones. My favorite soft foods were refried beans and melted cheese; scrambled eggs; Greek yogurt. But that was just me. You'll find your own.

My dietitian and my bariatric coordinator said absolutely no actual baby food. The pureed food stage should have a similar consistency to baby food, but baby food has a way different nutritional content than what adults, particularly bariatric patients, need. Specifically there is a lot of sugar and carbs in processed baby food and nowhere near enough protein.
I ate a lot of blended soup with lentils, soft poached eggs, greek nonfat yogurt, protein shakes, plain baked sweet potato, and blended beans during my pureed stage. My favorite was mashed beans blended and warmed up with green chilies, cilantro, green onion and topped with a bit of reduced fat cheese, light sour cream, and salsa. It was heavenly and tasted like chipless nachos. I couldn't eat much but I would make a batch and measure out 1-2 oz for my meal and warm it up.
I would suggest that you experiment some with the phases. The phases as they have been described to you are just a guideline and certainly not the bible. My point is this. The sooner you can eat, and tolerate, real solid food, the quicker you will lose your weight. Taking in protein via shakes and powders is not as beneficial as getting in your protein via animal and natural, organic plant sources.
Here are some examples. There was a guy in my sleeve group who literally ate a street taco the day we left Mexico. That was on day three. His stomach could tolerate it and so he did. I keep in touch with him and he lost all of his weight and has kept it off and we are approaching 4 years post op next week. As for myself, I was eating lentils, cottage cheese, pimento cheese, and other softish foods at about three weeks. I stayed with that for about another four weeks and then went to regular solid foods. I too lost all of my weight and have kept it off for three years.
The point is that if you can tolerate it, then you should eat protein rich foods as soon as you can. I would not recommend eating anything solid for the first three or four weeks as you stomach is healing. However, that, like everything else sleeve related, is up to the individual.
I can tell you from vast experience that each of us is different and as such, each of us will have an individual plan. That plan needs to be made by you, for you, and to the exclusion of everyone else...including your NIT....errrr.....NUT.
Make a plan. Work your plan. Own your results. Change as needed.
I had surgery on a Thursday and by Sunday evening I was going nuts so I mushed up some ramen noodles and ate a few bites and also regular chicken noodle soup mushed up the noodles too. Didn't bother me and even though they are high in carbs and sodium I just had to eat something. I made a lot of mashed potatoes (thanks for the tip on the chiles and toppings - yum gonna try that tonite!) with very tiny bits of butter but what I really liked was fat free refried beans topped with low fat cheese and a little salsa. I also like spam and bought (and still buy) low fat spam - mushed up real good at the beginning stage of course. It's actually pretty high in protein which surprised me. Egg beaters I ate (I cannot eat real eggs - totally allergic) I also love love love shrimp so I bought the cooked shrimp wheels and kept those around too - still do though now I buy the small salad shrimp. Peaches if you can find them with the no sugar or low sugar, I found some at Dollar General I think it was or Family Dollar - never remember which now.
Like others lost it all and then some and kept it off 4 years later. Only gained when I wanted to and had to since I hit 98 pounds which made me look and feel sickly.
I never could stand the taste of protein powder so I drink Labrada brand Lean Body on the Go - no carbs, no sugar, no fat - really good too! But even with those I never really was vigilant about drinking them. I drink them now as a "snack" mid day or mid afternoon.
