I am 3 yrs post-op and was doing great until 3 weeks ago. I went in for oral surgery and was put under sedation. I came out of it and now my restriction is gone. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance.
That's weird. You mean you can eat a lot of food at one sitting? Never heard of being under sedation and losing our restriction?
IT'S BEEN ALMOST TEN YEARS NOW SINCE MY SURGERY. AND IM STILL GOING STRONG!!!!!!
Really? Like you go to a nice restaurant and can eat a whole hamburger or a steak? That sounds impossible. Sedation doesn't grow you a new stomach.
LOL!
I'm sorry, but that's just not possible.

Your post was met with sceptisism because what you describe is physically impossible. You said you have no restriction now....can you be more specific? What could you eat before compared to now? Can you sit down to a 6 oz steak dinner with baked potato, veggies and roll and eat it all? Can you eat a 12" sub with chips and a soda?
I've been under anesthesia twice since my VSG with no change in restriction.
Likewise, I had gallbladder surgery since having had VSG surgery.
Nada.
How could anesthesia possibly stretch / grow / alter your stomach size? Through what physical / chemical / biological mechanism(s)?

Having no restriction essentially means you can eat the 40 to 48 ounces of food at one sitting that an unsleeved overeater can consume. I'm talking about an entire large pizza, plus a 9-piece bucket of fried chicken, plus a couple of slices of pie with ice cream on top.
Perhaps you intended to say your sleeved stomach doesn't feel as tight as it previously felt? If so, there are techniques to restore that feeling of tightness. However, I doubt your stomach has lost its restriction to the point that you can now eat five or six loaded plates of food at your local all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant.
Good luck to you, and don't feel as if you need to run off because of straightforward replies to your questions.

Maybe what you meant was that the ghrelin effect is gone and you are feeling physical hunger again? That you hadn't been experiencing cravings and now you are?
If it's in your head, that's where you need to deal with it. I had that battle last night. "I'm hungry." "No, you really aren't hungry. You had dinner, you had your evening snack, and you are not physically hungry." "I don't care, I want to eat." I have this conversation often. Sometimes, the hungry side wins, but last night it didn't. I just sat with the EMOTIONAL feelings until bedtime. This is why people say that the surgery is on your stomach and not your head. It's why therapy is recommended (or at least support groups).
Feeling hungry and being able to eat a lot more are two different things.
If I eat too much, I throw up. It's that simple. I really, really, really hate throwing up.
I hope that this is what you meant and were looking for. Your post made it seem like your sleeve was suddenly a full stomach again, and that isn't possible. We've had some issues with trolls recently, so people are a bit quick to respond.
Totally off topic but MargeB but OMG you look absolutely AMAZING!! I just want to make sure I have the same person. Your original picture was of you in the kitchen with little kids and a long dress on right? I cannot believe the wonderful transformation you have made, I would have never recognized you. Keep up the GREAT work girl you so deserve this!
When I said it could be what you're eating, that's from personal experience. I can eat cookies, cake, ice cream, candy, chips, no problems. It's like I had no change in my stomach. But when I follow the rules of protein first, then veggies, carbs if room, no drinking while eating, I totally feel restriction. So it's protein for me, first, every meal. It works. I think I've had 2 eggs for breakfast for about 2 years straight.
You didn't answer people who asked what you are eating. If you can eat a whole steak, a whole pork chop, a big hamburger, or 3-4 pieces of pizza, then something is wrong. Go see your surgeon to see if there is a problem. Mine said he can do an xray to see if the stomach looks like it should.
I had oral surgery last month and nothing changed for me. Well, actually that is not true.. with the surgery, some teeth pulled and exposed and braces put on.. I eat a lot of soft food again
Are you eating different types of food perhaps ? Maybe things you think you are eating more of ?
