100 pounds down and NOW no period...WTH??!!

Ladies please help, I am 8 months out, almost 9 months out, I am 100 pounds down and now I have not had my period since the end of december. I thought loosing weight was suppose to help me regulate"?

I went to the ER and had an ultrasound, so no I am not pregnant.

Someone help explain this, because I am at a loss here.

I hate to ask but could you be preggers...my doc told me that you become more fertile after the surgery ...if not it could just be the hormones released from the amazing amount of weight you've lost...

Sometimes rapid weight loss can interfere with periods during the period of loss - your body can get freaked out by the rapid change (it doesn't know it's good for you - for all your body knows you're on your way to starving to death). When that happens, sometimes our bodies reduce doing peripheral non-vital immediate functions to ensure energy and nutrients to the essential functions. It's one of the theories behind the hair loss as well.

Anyway, maybe that's got something to do with it, maybe not. Weight loss is also associated with release of hormones as we lose fat, so maybe that's confused things too. The obvious thing is to go see your doc.

I had my period pretty regularly after surgery and after the end of december....nothing. I thought I was suppose to be better.

They did a pregnancy test and look during the ultrasound, so no, No baby. I have been stuck at my current weight for 2 months now.

I'm having the same problem. My surgeon told me that this is normal. he said it takes awhile for your body to catch up with all the changes going on. I know my hormones have been crazy lately. Great job on your weight loss!!!!

I had the reverse happen. Was in peri-menopause (I'm 47) and only getting a period every 2-4 months. I've had 3 since my surgery December 1st (so mor frequent than before.) I don't know your age but thought if you were in the appropriate age range you could be entering peri-menopause (which can last years before menopause.) If not, I would attribute it to all of the very good reasons given above - shock to the system and hormones being a bit out of whack due to weight loss, etc.

I am 40 years old and trying to have my last baby. I dont have any symptoms of menopause

I had my last baby at almost 40. I was having irregular periods for the first time at age 38-39. It might not be related to peri-menopause, but it might. Keep in mind menopause can take many many years and women also have babies (often surprise babies) during that time because the body will try to release more eggs. I wish you all the best. I'm sure that that your body is just adjusting to the weight loss. It does really affect our hormones. BTW, I am 47 and back to regular periods. Fun times .

my period is all over the place and heavier and i cramp like i am gonna die i was told it was my hormones cause our fat cells as they deflate release hormones trapped inside them so it messes with everything

I've had changes as well. My Dr told me that they have discovered that the stomach releases lots of hormones. When 80 % gets removed it takes a while for your body to rebalance the hormones. I hope you get what you wish for. In the meantime the other benefits, better health, lots of nsv to enjoy.
