Bump because of the good info in this thread.

I would love to eat some animal protein however just 4 weeks post surgery I can barely tolerate eggs. My stomach is hurting and I am queasy. No energy losing muscle along with weight. With that being said I would love to find some way to get Protein in besides liquid. Please give me some hints and I am not sure where to look at research I am going to look around to see what I can find. Thank you for any help.
Cottage cheese is great, especially before bed. Protein pudding. Non-fat greek yogurt. Oatmeal flavored with protein powder. Ricotta cheese. Shred some chicken, should be easier to handle, especially if you chew it up enough.
Plenty of ways to get in your protein, even though liquid is probably the easiest. Try different brands, variety might help the "fatigue" you may be experiencing.
I dunno what will work for you. Some of these things are just peculiar to your tastes, tolerance and speed of healing. Don't worry about eating lots of hard meat right now -- that'll come.
Early on what worked for me were: non-fat refried beans with melted cheese and chopped chicken; Greek yogurt (vanilla is still my fave); skim milk; protein shakes (sorry, but it's still protein); cream of chicken soup with extra chopped chicken in it; baked chicken cut in very small bites with melted cheese; cottage cheese.
Yeah, I know that doesn't sound very creative, but honestly -- I didn't care about creativity much at that point. I just wanted to get the protein in. And my restriction was very strong early on, of course, like it is while the new tummy is still healing.
Good luck!

too add on to others, i cannot tolerate ground beef well but can do steak without issue...unless the ground beef is in chili... what gives??
i have played around with all kinds of foods to find something that works. i like fish a lot more now than ever before and shrimp/lobster are better than ever.
I started eating semi solid foods about three weeks out. I subsisted for the next couple of months on cottage cheese, lentils with Andouille Sausage chopped up and, as Ann said, refried beans. All of these are great choices for protein.
Great post...I'm 1 week out...so taking this in. Still on liquids this week, I added a protein shake this morning. It's hard to get it all the liquids in...can't wait to have a piece of meat.
