Has anyone who had the gastric sleeve gotten a C-diff infection? I had my surgery on June 9th and acquired a C-diff infection (a life threating bacterial infection in the intestines), ended up in the hospital on July 2 with a high fever, on IV's and in isolation for a week. Ended up in the ER on Dec. 26 again. This is the 3rd time with this infection. Curious to know if anyone else got any infections with this surgery. Thanks!

I did end up with a bladder infection 3 weeks later, I think due to the catheter, but nothing else thank God, good luck.

Yes ... "Kindle" (who posts here occasionally) got a nasty c-diff infection a few months post-op. She finally kicked it by finding a healthy friend to be a gut flora / fecal donor (not kidding -- that's how it works).

Her friend had to go through all sorts of tests to make sure that her fecal donation wouldn't transmit anything nastier, e.g., Hep C, HIV, and several other things.

Thank you Ann2. I will have to try and find "Kindle" to discuss with her. That will be my next avenue to rid myself of C-diff. I have already discussed with a doctor in NYC. They don't do it where I live.

I have had c-diff but it was before I had surgery. Too many antibitics to get rid of what was thought to sinus infection, ended up being polyps. Oh well, I was on oraal flagyl for 2 weeks, did not work, then 2 weeks of oral vancomyacin finally kicked it. This is a very contagious problem. It just makes me cringe when I see visitors of the patients at my hospital put children on the floor. Do you know where our shoes have been. Yuck. Good Luck with kicking this. Hope you wont need a fecal transplant. Everytime you are on an antibiotic especially Augmentin you need to take a probiotic at least twice a day.

Thank you donewithdieting. Unfortunately I had not been on any anti biotic in the past year or so. The transplant is my next step. I have been on Vancomycin on and off (mostly on) since July 2nd. It has cost us well over $3k just for the vancomycin out of pocket! Hoping since I am still on it that this time will do the trick. Right now I am taking Florastor 3 times a day with the vancomycin and was told to contine the Florastor for 3 to 6 months after I finish the meds. Time will tell.

That's horrible! I haven't had c-diff but I know of many people who have...I've heard it is very painful...I am sorry. I hope you are cured soon and are back to feeling normal xo
