Aqua, if you're serious about making them shut up, you can turn the conversation away from your weight and talk about THEIR weight. (Hey, if they're presumptuous enough to talk about yours, you are entitled to talk about theirs.)
What about this line of questioning (of them by you):
- It's clear that you don't know what healthy weights are.
- That's not surprising, given that 70% of American adults are overweight or obese. Seventy percent!
- How much do YOU weigh?
- (If they don't answer, say ...) I'm guessing you weigh about XXX and you're about YY tall.
- Do you know that means you are overweight [obese]?
- To be a normal weight you should weigh somewhere between X and Y.
- That means you need to lose Z pounds.
- You would feel so much better and probably live longer if you lost your excess weight!
- How do you plan to do that?
- What does your doctor say about the shape you're in?
- What does your husband / wife think about the shape you're in?
- What do you do for exercise?
- Do you think that's enough exercise for someone of your age and weight?
- What are your 2015 health and fitness goals?
- How can I support you in achieving those goals?
It would be interesting to know how those who are criticizing your hard-won health and fitness would respond to your inquiries.
