I am now 3 days post op and I'm so hungry. I want to eat something so badly.
It isn't too much longer until you start the puree phase and afterwards the soft protein phase.
We know you can do it (it wasn't easy for me either). Keep up the great work.
Better yet, when you think about eating. Write some goals you would like to achieve during next couple of years during sugery. Make them small or a bigger goal. Or if you are tempted to eat, go for a 20 min walk and then add a couple minutes at a time, this might help get your mind off things and it shows others and yourself you CAN DO IT.

I know the feeling. I have craved a lot of foods before and now even after the surgery. Last night I was dying for a slice of cheese. But, I drank my protein shake and later had a cup of jello and felt satisfied. I still didn't have the salty goodness but I know that will come with time.
Hang in there. Stay focused and make sure you get all your protein and fluids in. This soon will be a distant memory!
Tough titty. You can't. And you will be ok. Really. I mean it.

After having very recently went through this.. It's more of a head hunger than a real hunger.. I thought the same thing as you when i was going through it. In a few more days you'll be able to eat puddings and yogurts and applesauce.. and they WILL fill you up. You're brain will hate it and it will insist that you are still hungry and that you must eat the kind of foods that you love. However, your stomach will rebel against this idea.
I pureed some Progresso light baked potato soup at 7 days, added some season salt and reduced it down a little and it was like heaven. Filled me up completely too.. So Hang in there brother.. 4 weeks ago I was exatcly where you are right now, starving! (or rather I thought I was). Last night I ate half of a small baked potato, 5 green beans and 2-3 oz's of chicken and was completely stuffed!
Hey Wayne!
Can we think of something together to do to beat these hungers!?!?!
I am 7 days post surgery...........AND REALLY HUNGRY!
water, coffee, tea, broth, slim fast.............none of them have made me not hungry!
And the more i drink all this stuff.............the hungrier I get!! And I cant get it out of my mind!
Maybe we need to come up with a mantra or something to get these hunger demons out of our minds.
Any ideas anyone?!?!
The liquids don't activate ANY restriction by your new tummy. The liquids just slide on through.
Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse, but I actually didn't feel any hunger at all. I was completely distracted by all the other changes I was going through, learning to sip, sip, sip.
However, about 7-10 days out I was really ready for puree. My surgeon's program said 14 days post-op I could have purees. When I saw him 10 days post-op, he said: "Go ahead and eat purees now. No biggie."
I was SO glad.
I remember still the first thing I ate: scrambled eggs with cottage cheese.
And then I moved on to refried beans with melted cheese. Mmm, mmm!

You definitely can feel hunger this close out, just not everyone does. I'm a week out and I started feeling hungry by day 5. I just make sure to get in three "meals" or shakes and then have soup broth or jello inbetween if I'm still hungry. Just learn to pay attention to your tummy so you don't accidentally overeat.
As for shakes, I was told I could have protein shakes the day I went home but they had to be mixed with water. I wasn't supposed to mix them with milk until 2-3 days later. I was also supposed to start out with just 1 shake a day and gradually increase to 3 daily as my stomach handled them. Truth be told I probably could be moved to purees by now because I'm handling my intake so well but I don't go back for the post-op visit for another week and a half.
Just gotta roll with it.
I really don't get hungry. I get bored and graze but that's more bad habit than anything. When I want something I have it. Just had a quarter of a cheeseburger, a hand full of fries and 3 onion rings. Stuffed. I don't eat that crap much but just gotta have some salt now and then. And like Ann refried beans with low fat cheese and salsa were my favorite lunch too.
