OK, silly question, maybe, but I've gotten conflicting information about this.
When the VSG is performed, does the surgeon remove the "extra" part of the stomach that's snipped off of the part that remains?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it comes out the biggest hole that they put in your abdomen, which is probably the reason that opening is made larger than the others. I am guessing at that, it may be they also need it bigger for some of the equipment that goes through that opening.
Thanks, guys.

Y'know, I have researched. A lot.
But a week ago I attended an eight-hour lecture at the local "Bariatric Center of Excellence," and the dude who did the lecturing said the leftover stomach remains inside the body and is fed by the blood vessels that are already attached to it.
Swear to God.
And that's why I asked here.

Ann, that might be true for bypass since those are reversible and possibly he is talking about gastric plication which is similar to sleeve but the stomach is folded then stapled rather than cut and stapled and is reversible unlike the sleeve.
Thanks, Marv, for that information
I'm pretty sure the dude was talking about the sleeve. And when I raised my hand and questioned him, he repeated what he'd said before.
In any event, he wasn't a great lecturer. (Thank goodness, he's not the surgeon, who is sharp as can be.)

Thanks, guys. I definitely will let the surgeon know about this.
Again, I appreciate the quick answers. It was the only thing that had stumped me.

I know my surgeon took pictures of the removed part as part of my surgical file. He even showed it to my wife while I was in recovery, the picture that is. My wife is a Filipina nurse so she was very inquisitive. Ask your surgeon and I am sure that he confirm that it IS taken out.
