    Lightbulb Moderator--Please start a forum for Veterans----PLEASE.

I'm 2 years out and it's getting old opening up peoples posts complaining that their surgery didn't work; just to find out from their profile they had surgery 5 days ago.

To keep coming here I need to hear from people that have "been there, done that" and where are we now. What kind of problems, and interesting things have we been thru. To help each other out. What's next.

Now don't make a veteran on how many posts-- it has to be years out of surgery 1-1/2 to 2 years to join the group.

I'm not hating on any group, just looking for something for me. Linda

I agree with you... I am just over a year out and all I read about it those that are going to have it done and those that are a week or so out. We need more input from veterans, those that have been through different things... I have been at a plateau now going on over 5 months and all I ever get is exercise.. Well I know that but its not always as easy as it sounds...

I honestly think there arent that many year plus veterans on here very often. Even when someone posts a message for vets, most of the responses are from people well under a year. I wish there were many on here because I would love to hear more from their perspective of what its like 1 to 3 years down the road. However, I think the more time that passes, people must need the support group less and less since they are thin and most issues are behind them. I hope you get your forum. I would definitely lurk in there.

I love this idea! Even at 6 months out I have noticed many members who were sleeved just before me or around my date seem to participate on the forums less and less. This could be a great idea to keep members active further out from surgery! I hope it happens!

Shirley, not sure what a vet could tell you on fixing a stall that anyone else couldn't. You have to burn more than you take in in order to lose so you have to alter the variables in the equation to go from stall to loss. Eat less calories is obviously one alternative, more exercise to increase metabolism is another, as is proper nutrition including plenty of water and protein to assist your body in effectively metabolizing calories. Then there are the tricks people try to play on their bodies like increasing calories for a short while to convince the body its not in starvation mode so that it will increase burning. Keeping starches low since they carry three times their weight in water, etc. I doubt that there is much else one can do other than be patient. When I do any of those things I see changes in rate of loss. But I think its easier for males than it is for females. Thyroid issues can affect weight loss as well.

But I do agree with you that you should have a forum for those a little longer in the tooth to share like experiences. I, too, find myself shaking my head reading about people at a week out speaking about the process like they are six months out. I often do double takes when I read the post then look at the ticker and see things dont seem to be properly aligned. Now that I am eating solid foods and doing everything I could do before, plus have lost pretty much what I wanted to lose, I am more concerned with down the road. The only reason I read newbie posts now is to try and provide support and reassurances where I can, like people did for me a couple months ago.

Actually, I believe the moderator(s) DO have to make a new forum. Posters can make threads or blogs, but not a new forum.

The admin has to make forums. Any member can make a group. They are two different things. Forums get more traffic because they are open to everyone.

I think the mods ought to make a whole other section on this site called "Sleeve Veterans" or something. And then have a rule that "sleeve newbs" (people who haven't had the sleeve for 3-4 months or less) are not supposed to post in the Sleeve Veterans section, but are welcome to read the posts there for guidance. Once they have had the sleeve for 3-4 months, then they can start posting there too.

I really would like to see more sleeve veterans around and I agree, you guys deserve your own place here.

The thing is I see is that if you are a year or two out, you don't need the forum as much. I am almost a year out and I don't use this forum, near as much as I use to. It's a lot of the same stuff and after you are sleeved your life changes. You are so busy with the new you. OK that's my point on the subject.
