Ok Friends,
I can get down 2 egg whites and get full. Is this normal? I have a 40 French Bougie (stomach measured at) and I am a bit concerned. Can anyone else eat that much? Please SHARE!! Thank you!
Can you tell us more about it? I mean do you do things like eat and drink at the same time. How long it takes you to eat the eggs etc. Just out of curiosity? Personally, I don't think it is a reason to freak out on. Eggs are a softer protein. I know its hard not to worry when you feel like you are able to eat more than you should, but the density of the food you eat is a factor in how much you can consume before feeling that restriction. Its likely that with denser foods you will eat less. If you happen to be eating and drinking a the same time then the food will dilute and go through the pouch faster etc. etc. It could also be possible that people who worry they are eating too much are eating too fast. Right after surgery it take you brain a moment to re-register that signal from your stomach letting you know that you are full, so it is possible to overeat and get a delayed signal...which normally leads to that uncomfortable feeling after eating, or sometimes people will throw the excess food back up.
If you are worried about it contact your doctor and ask them about it, but I was sleeved with a slightly larger bougie due to a history of gastrointestinal issues that I had, and I have always been able to eat slightly more than others I knew, but it didn't really make much of a difference in losing the weight. I understand the worry, I really do, but I am betting that when you progress on to eating denser foods you will see that you are not eating as much as you think. I hope this helps some!
YES IN DEED THAT HELPS. No, I heard NOT to eat and drink at the same time. I can eat the eggs and they go down normally. Your right, when I eat another type of food say soft veggies, I can not eat a lot. I so thank you for taking the time to tell me all of this. I had an issue with this 40 French bougie and thought that because of it....I can eat more. I got frustrated. So you have lost a lot of weight??? I am at a stall and this is not good. Did you stall too? I just need this weight to LEAVE. What size is your bougie, if you do not mind sharing?
I believe mine was a 38, i have gone from 235 to 145 lbs, i am 5'4. In reality the bougie sizes are only millimeters in variance and if you surgeon did a suture line over top of your staple line then the end result will actually be a bit smaller. I also stalled early on, and have had a couple on long stalls that frustrated me as well, but in time, so long as I did what I was told I had no trouble losing the weight. Stalling early on is actually pretty common, I made a post about this years ago when I had surgery, if I can find that post again I will send it too you. It helps explain why our bodies stall. Glad the info was helpful. This journey will test the limits of our sanity at times, but if you don't already start keeping track of you measurements as well. I found that during many of my stalls when I wasn't losing weight I was losing hella inches...it really helps keep you motivated when you are feeling frustrated.
I was sleeved on April 20th, the same day as you. I can eat two hard-boiled eggs without any issues. It's the harder proteins (chicken, meatballs, roast beef, etc) that cause extreme restriction and fullness for me. In general, I can tolerate anywhere from 6 to 8 ounces of food before the feeling of restriction kicks in.

I am trying to remember my bougie size, I know its not very big, 36 I think. I find it kind of strange that in your pre surgical counseling no one mentioned not drinking prior and after eating for 15 to 30 min. At your stage I had trouble eating 1 egg, but everyone is different. I need to go back but because of the long line of staples used in a sleeve but I remember pudding and soft foods a few weeks. I was fortunate to not have any stalls in my weight loss period. I did follow the rules, and was a voracious walker, 10,000 steps a day minimum from very early on. I was very focussed in my first year. I still am, but not rigid. I had another major surgery one year out and it is taking me a while to find my ideal weight. I started at 299 lbs and currently weigh 217. I am 6ft 2in tall and really feel like a new man from where I started. Be sure to read over the materials you received from your nutritionist and surgeon. Good luck and I wish you the very best.
Mike, I have a 40 F as I stated in my post and you said you have about a 36....I still believe that the size of the measuring device has a lot to do with what you just explained. This is why I posted this....2 eggs? But one of the ladies said, eggs as part of the 4th week is soft and slider foods...? So once I really start eating the food will not be very much. Ya, know Mike men do not have hormones like us girls and I am really jealous to hear you did not have any stalls....LOL NO FAIR!!! It also sounds like you mean business of which we all need to have in mind. I will be 50 this year, premenopausal and the list goes on. So thank you for sharing, I like the movement (walking) and to hear you share, THERE IS HOPE OF THE REST OF US. I am losing slow and a bit discouraged.
Here's what actual size differences are among actual bougie circumferences.
Really. Believe me. The bougie size doesn't matter. So many other things matter so much more.
