    Default alcohol

I was wondering if I would ever be able to have a drink with friends. I don't drink often, maybe a glass or two year. Also if you can, how long did you guys wait?

I waited a few months before trying a drink. It takes a few months to comfortably drink a serving of water, much less something harder than that. Not wanting to derail the weight loss, I started with a shot glass - and according to my daughter - nursed the shot like it was a tall one! LOL Now I usually have a glass of wine and call it a night. I'm not a big drinker either and yet, it's nice to know I can have a little something once in a while.

It is nice to know. I got invited to a new years party and declined a drink. I knew being newly sleeved, it would be a very bad idea. Didn't know if it was a permanent Noor not

I also am not much of a drinker but its nice to have a drink on occasion with friends. I waited 3 months. I still can't drink a whole bottle of beer or a full glass of wine so I sip but it makes me feel more like one of the guys.

I was at my sister's house for Christmas and I poured a bottle of grape juice into a wine glass, no one know I wasn't drinking!
BTW my sister(and husband) are the only family members that I've told about being sleeved. Maybe you can fake it too! I was only two weeks post.
Anyway, I believe I've read not to consume alcohol until three months post, some doctors recommend six months out.

Sure. Like you I'm not a big drinker. But I've had drinks (only one each time) about ten times in the last 20 weeks since I had VSG surgery.

I had my first drink (a whole whopping ounce of chardonnay) about a month post-op. Was a little earlier than I'd anticipated, but the event seemed to justify it (a toast at a brother-in-law's 50th birthday party), and it was only an ounce. So no biggie.

My surgeon said to wait a year because it is just empty calories. But I didn't wait that long!

I had half a glass of wine, nursed over a couple of hours, a month after being sleeved. I was more trying to fit in than enjoy a glass of wine. I didn't enjoy it.

New Year's Eve...6 months post op...I had several glasses of wine and enjoyed myself fully!

I was quite a good girl and waited a few months before drinking. I was sleeved the end of March and went to a 4th ofJuly party-had quite a few Jell-O shots and some wine punch. Since then I've had maybe 3 dinners that involved a glass of wine with (I'm very strict about the whole eating and drinking at the sane time--it makes me very uncomfortable). This past Saturday was my first "party" if you will--I lost count of alcoholic consumption--I'm 10 months out. Felt like the old, normal me---but without the IHOP run afterwards and in better clothes. LOL.
