"You look older" and "She looks so young". Make up your mind.

Yesterday I saw a lady at the market that I had not seen in months. She said,"You've lost weight...it doesn't look good. You look older!" The next day I'm at a baby shower and I hear my daughter telling someone that I was her mother, and the girl replying, "I didn't know she was your mother. She looks so young!" The first comment had me deflated all the way to the baby shower 5 hours away! Very confusing. But I'll believe the second girl!

Wow! Some people have no filter when it comes to what is and isn't appropriate to say. I agree, go with the second girl!

First of all, who in the world says something like that? I think if someone said something so off the hook like that to me, I would be struck dumb for days trying to think of how to respond. Truth is that people who strike out like that feel powerless and imagine they can claw some power back by striking out at others--or they're unbalanced and should be avoided.

So how perfect it was that only 5 hours later you overheard that young woman compliment your daughter on your youthful looks. Don't you just love it when the universe gently fixes everything--and no effort on your part was required!

Some people have no filter. They are used to seeing you a certain way. I wonder if she was overweight herself, maybe she was jealous. Doesn't matter. You know you look and feel good so dismiss it from your mind.

Young people think that everyone who is ten years or more older than them is ancient. Like dinosaurs and biblical times ancient. So when a young person says how young you look, take the compliment and smile. They even think last year's wardrobe is old, let alone people who are their parents' age. Women closer to our own age love to throw shady comments to other women. Everytime you go out from now on, wear fabulous, designer sunglasses. You'll need them to block the shade from hating asses like that woman.

RUDE, RUDE, RUDE....and apparently stupid too. That must have been really hard to hear, and I bet she intended it to be. UGH.

Story about stupid comments.... Last week I took my youngest to gymnastics. She is THREE, almost 4, shortest and youngest in class. The mom next to me says, indicating my daughter "I just LOVE her chubby little thighs!" I refrained from punching her in the face....barely! BTW, my daughter is perfect size in every way.

The first comment was rude and probably said in jealousy. Feel sorry for the poor soul.

People don't think before they speak. My husband said I look older and have more pronounced wrinkles since my surgery. Other people that I met at my dance show thought I was in my mid 20s, not 39. I chalk it up to people having different references to what an age should look like. I remember being a teen and thinking how old people in their 40s look. Now I can't tell a specific age other than someone looks in the 30-45 age range. And that range seems to get bigger each year. I am just horrible at it. But that still is never an excuse for anyone to tell anyone else they look old!

My body-shape definitely looks younger - my face maybe a bit older because the wrinkles are less filled out. Anyway, I did this for my health, so I don't care so much how I look. What a completely rude and inappropriate thing to say out loud. Don't give her any more thought!

You know, the sad part is that she had told me several years ago that children teased her when she was young. They told her she looked like a frog because her eyes were so far apart. I would never have told her she looked like a frog. At this point her original statement seems funny because of all your lighthearted comments. Thanks.
