I can totally relate! I researched, talked with a friend that had this done and was being converted from a lap band... I thought no problem, I got this. I was wrong at first. It was totally different from the band. The dr told me the schedule to get back on to "regular" foods so when my body was not cooperating with any soft foods (getting stuck on pudding, really??) , I thought it was the end of life for me, I would never feel right again, I cried to my husband that I made the worst mistake ever... I went back on liquids for another week and then tried soft foods again. Then I really started paying attention to how my body was feeling...I'm feeling a little week, I took my vitamins and I'm where I should be with my protein, so lets eat something. I had to get into the mindset that I am hungry now and I am going to make this egg, I may only be able to eat 5 bites and then I am going to be full but that is ok, that is all my body needs. If I am in a social setting where we are eating together, I kinda play with my food to make it appear that I am eating so no one notices that I'm not really eating and I take very small sips of water or tea while I eat and it does not hurt or fill me up too much. I did get adjusted sooner than you, maybe because I had the band, but in the end I wish I would have done this first. I had a lot of problems with my band which in the end wound up with a hole in it and had to be removed. My weight would go up and down everytime that they had to "deflate" me to address a problem like extreme heartburn or pain because muscle and tissue grew around the tubing. That was depressing and it got harder each time to take the weight off.

Sorry to go on so much, but I get it...hang in there, it will get better and you will be very happy with the end result! Good luck!

Cry baby cry make your mother sigh. You are old enough to know better so cry baby cry. What you need is tough love and straight talk. You'll never eat a sandwich again is that what you care about? What about your health? What about adding extra years to your life and being with the ones your love ones.
Why is it everyone else's mistake? Are you accountable too? Self-discipline and control are what you need. All the helpful information and support you have gotten from this site won't do you a dimes worth of good if you aren't mentally prepared to receive it. So ask your self these questions: what am I mentally prepared to do to achieve my goals? What am I willing to give? What changes in my life am I willing to make to achieve my goal? What amount of discomfort and inconvenience am I willing to put up with?
From your posts the answers to these questions is none.
You want a sandwich and it's got you in a tizzy. Sorry for the tough love but get real.

I am only 3 weeks in and my surgeon has a liquid diet for three weeks, pureed the 4th week and starting soft solids the 5th week, I was told not to try steak for at least 6months as it is hard to digest. I was also told that when I start solids if I don't feel good then go back to soft foods and try again in a day or two. Maybe your stomach just isn't healed enough to take in the food. I was told by nutritionist that my days of candy and eating full meals would end when I had surgery. The second day home from the hospital my husband ordered the kids pizza. I was ready to kill lol but now I am much better at seeing others eat. Went out to eat Saturday and I had a bowl of soup while everyone else was eating the good stuff. I just keep telling myself it's worth it, I had lost 90lbs ten years ago and I remember when. I was 150 Pounds that I could care less about food. Never ate candy-didn't want it. Then I got pregnant and I ate everything, bought. Bag of candy a day. The more time that passes the easier it will be. Yes it ducks knowing I'll never eat a huge burger again but I'm going to make sure that I enjoy eating what I can and not let food and cravings control me. I'm gonna look good and feel good and so will you. No pain no gain---no pain no loose lol
you Can Do it, I would try eating soft foods again and stay away from foods that are hard to digest-steak....definitely check in with your surgeon and tell them that they need to prepare their patients for after surgery feelings. My nutritionist was great- told me how it would be- my surgeon just focased on the procedure and telling me how fast I would loose weight, how easy it is and that I'll be in the hospital overnight and go home ...blah blah blaj. It hurt like hell And I was in the hospital for 4 days. He sugarcoated everything but luckily I have the nutritionit's and my friend who had done this a year earlier.
I wish you luck! Don't let yourself get depressed, I know how that feels and for me when depressed feelings come the wanting to eat comes with them. You did the surgery-that was the easy part. The rest is up to us. When you Stat thinking about eating stop yourself and do something to stay busy. When your busy your mind isn't thinking about eating.
Wow that was really long.....sorry ;-)
Good luck!!! It'll be worth it!!

My only regret was that I didn't have the Bypass instead of the sleeve. My weight loss has been spotty over the last year and although i would be worried about the future somewhat with the bypass, at least i wouldn't be struggling to lose 2-3 pounds a month.

I agree with Ann, about you are still healing, and you need to stop thinking about what you can't eat right now. My husband is 3 weeks out, and has had a few moments where it was more than he could tolerate, but he is on pureed foods and about to introduce soft solids. Each doctor is different, and I think they do a pretty good job informing us of what to expect. The only thing that wasn't explained well, was the day of surgery (the pain level) and the removal of the drain. Good lord it looked painful. You need to sit down with the nutritionist and discuss what you are eating, and the pain that you are having. Remember each person is different! My close friend was exhausted because of the limited calories, my husband hasn't taken a nap since the hospital, I hope to have the same thing, but it could be different for me who knows? Good luck, and I hope it gets better.

They (surgeons, doctors) don't tell you what it will REALLY be like after surgery. They want you to lose weight, tell your friends and family, and not worry.

Well, if I had known that I would never ever eat a sandwich again, not enjoy food and suffer like I am or have read that others have too, I surely would not have done a sleeve, maybe a band, but it's too late now....and I am suffering.

Every time I eat, I feel pain, uncomfortable, stuck (no matter how small I cut everything into pieces), I am a very slow eater but it is a feeling as though I'm going to be sick, I have not vomited once...after 30 mins of trying to eat something, I'm ok. I feel fine if I don't eat, but I'm hungry and want to eat.

I've tried, fish, chicken, steak, fruits, veggies....if it's not liquid or soft stuff like we ate the first two weeks, I suffer, this is no fun, it is making me depressed, and the worst is going out to eat with family and friends.

I would not recommend this surgery to anyone.
Did you see a dietitian pre-op? and do lots of reading beforehand?, and buy resources e.g. books?

This is what I have bought:
"Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook for Dummies" and
"The Complete Weight-Loss Surgery Guide & Diet Program Includes 150 Delicious and Nutritious Recipes"
"Portion Perfection for Bariatrics. Seeing is Believing" by Amanda Clark, and
"Your Complete Guide to Nutrition for Weight Loss Surgery 2nd ed." by Sally Johnston.

I also bought a bariatric bowl and plate to help with portion sizes. You can get them on ebay.

*I am surprised that you got onto solids so quickly!*

This is the schedule that I have been given by the dietitian:
Day 1 Post Op - Clear fluids, no more than 50 ml every 20-30 mins
Day 2 to Day 14 Post surgery: Full Fluids
Not using a straw, the fluids must be liquid enough to pass through a straw.
    Start with just a teaspoon
No more than 1/2 cup at a time.
Avoid carbonated beverages or allow to go flat.
Can have thin custards and yoghurt - low fat, smooth soups, low fat milk, milkshakes and smoothies,
Milky high protein nutritional supplements such as 'Optifast'

Weeks 3 and 4 Post Surgery: Puree Diet
Mushy/puree consistency similar to baby's first foods
1/4 cup, no more than 1/2 cup. This can increase over weeks 7 and 8 and no more than 1 cup
Include high quality protein sources at each meal and eat them first.
Can include protein-based meal replacements e.g. Optifast
    Chew foods very well.
Separate meals from fluids. Allow 20-30 minutes before and after meals to slowly sip fluids
Avoid eggs until week 5 to avoid potential discomfort.
    foods can include:
    Smooth low fat yoghurt/milk
    Reduced fat ricotta/cotrtage cheese
    Pureed fruit
    Thin porridge/semolina
    Mashed/pureed vegetable/lentils/legumes
Blended casseroles with meat, chicken, fish, legumes, vegetables, rice, pasta

I see the dietitian again 2/52 post-op and then commence special multivitamin supplements.

Right stop panicking it's really really early days . You will beable to eat a sandwich in fact I'm just about to enjoy one . You will enjoy food again , I get pain when I'm full or eat or drink too fast . Your body has been through a big ordeal and needs to get better . It is worth it and you will feel much better soon and it gets better and better the more time goes on . Stay positive and follow the rules and it will work . Good luck
