I am so weak I can hardly move, and severe hunger. I had been pretty immobile for a couple of years, due to back, knee and other chronic pain. I am pretty miserable, depressed and tearful. Is any/all of this normal?
It's very normal to be emotional and depressed. As far as weakness goes, you really shouldn't have severe weakness - drink some Gatorade to increase your electrolytes and you might feel like a new person. Very hungry, me too! Could be stomach acid so make sure you are taking your acid reducer medication. I felt pretty bad at the one and a half week mark but things do get better with each passing day. Try as hard as you can to get some walking in. If it's only 10 minutes then that's fine. Walking/exercising will help you feel better physically and emotionally. It also helps keep that metabolism going. The worst thing you can do it not eat AND not exercise. Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing in a few days!
It sounds like you were not very strong to begin with, having been immobile for so long.
However, it also sounds like you are very probably dehydrated.
Two truths for all new VSGers: (1) it's hard to drink 64 ounces of water a day and (2) you HAVE to drink 64 ounces of water a day.
You just have to figure it out so you get it all. Many people set timers. Others line up little glasses of water and drink them all down every hour.
Whatever you have to do, do it. And then see how you feel. I bet with enough water you will notice a positive difference.
Best wishes.

I got very dehydrated at the two week mark and it made me absolutely miserable, tired and weak. I sipped on pedialyte and it helped a great deal
