Unhappy Banding Vs. VGS vs. Gastric Bypass

I've been going through the process of getting approved for WLS since October 2011. My first thought was to get banded (Lap-Band), my second choice would be VGS. However, when I saw my surgeon he planted that seed of doubt in my brain that I wouldn't be strong enough for the Lap-Band and suggests that I go with Gastric Bypass. He doesn't seem to believe in me, but does say it's my choice. I can't see rerouting my system with Gastric Bypass, but my worry with the sleeve is that my stomach will stretch out and I then I'll have to have gastric bypass!
Any comments or advice for me on this?

I was in your place back in October as well. After all I just had the sleeve done on Jan. 20 and am feeling great. I did not want to go with the band after all the problems that I was reading out there and many people wanting to change over from that to the sleeve and I did not think I really needed to go to the extreme of the full bypass so I decided on the sleeve also many of my co workers already had this done and where 10 months out and were doing great with great looking results so I decided that was the best choice for myself and I started doing my research and it looked positive even without the long term information since it is a new procedure there is no long term evidence on how it will do but I still believed in it. And so far so good. You just have to go with what you feel comfortable with. Good Luck!

Hello..My first choice was the band but when I met my surgeon he did not think I would have the weight loss results I needed due to the large amount of weight I have to lose. I did not want the bypass due to the re routing of the intestines...You should research, meet with your surgeon and then decide what is best for you...Good Luck

I had a band (had it for 2 years, all bad news) converted to a sleeve, (18 months ago) I am happy.
My wife had a bypass (3.5 years ago), I was at one stage thinking I should have gone that way, but after a heap of work in the gym, I am of comparative weight with out the side effects of bypass. We both eat about the same, she seems to keep the weight off easier, I still "kinda" have to watch what I eat and regular exorcise, where she does ZERO exercise. BUT I can eat cream etc where she can get "dumping" although after a few years she does not look at that kind of food as something she wants
    Hope that helps.
