    Cool The First Stumble

Well, I knew it would happen eventually...the slip. After almost 2 months of being a saint, tonight, I polished off an entire bag of microwave popcorn. Ok, you're thinking, prolly one of those 100 calorie bags....NOT! It was a full fat bag too. Some of you may wonder how it fit....just fine thank you very much! Apparently, popcorn chews into teeny tiny bits so you can fit a whole bunch in there. My tummy has been having one of those, "you can eat more today" days and since my surgery not a morsel of sweets has passed my lips but salty, been really craving that. EEK, now what? Well, I threw out the other 2 bags of microwavable goodness and will get up early tomorrow to walk. It was good, I'm done and tomorrow back to protein, protein, protein!

Hang in there.... its a new lifestyle not a diet and tonight was a small bump to warn you not to buy anything but snack size. Walk it off and forgive yourself.

if popcorn feels good, then i agree with Rae, buy the small snack size bags and enjoy a little. how bad can a 'little' popcorn be?
i'm not there yet, i'm 3 weeks out, and don't like the taste of anything, everything tastes the same, like nothing, and i can't eat much and don't want anything.
this morning, i felt hungry, had my protein shake for breakfast, picked a little bit at lunch (tuna fish and cheese, ate about 2 tbsp) and then at 4pm felt hungry. went home at 5pm, and somewhere along that hour, my hunger went away. Came home, made Mac and Cheese for the family, tried about 1/2c in a bowl with some peas, didn't eat half of it, it had no taste or appeal, and my family was raving about how good it was... weird!

Prior to surgery, if that was me, I would feel defeated by myself and then pig out on everything in sight, and then some! Now we have the sleeve, a wonderful tool to keep us in check. Forgive yourself the popcorn and tomorrow is a new day with lots of protein and water. Wash out the salt with the water! Hugs!

Maybe you just needed to do that once. Too bad it didn't make you feel a little sick. That's what I'm worried about--the idea that there are some foods out there that you can take a lot more in than you want to. I would feel safer if I thought eating more than 5 chips would make me sick. but from what I hear, things like chips are no problem. So for now, I'm just plain avoiding them. I'm sure I'll have my slip too though. Thanks for sharing!

Okay, I don't know if you've read my blog on here, but popcorn was my arched nemesis before the sleeve. I wrote a blog on a date night at the movies and popcorn. So I just have to know - how did it feel? Did it hurt? Did any of the little husks on those soft little fluffy morsels get stuck? Did you feel bloated and gross or did they just pass on through? We've booked my daughter's upcoming birthday at a movie theatre and that will be at the time I can start 'real' food. So do I risk it, or do I keep telling myself it will kill me...

Well, it did not make me feel bad, did not bother my stomach or cause me any other ill effects (damn it!) I am with you about the love of popcorn, love, love, love it. It was good but I also couldn't stop eating it just like before and magically, my sleeve did not argue with me! There was no wall, no "one more bite and you're going to puke", nothing. I did get a rapid heartbeat but didn't feel sick or anything. However, there were some great ideas (like the mini bags) on here. BTW, when I went to the movies -which I've avoided since surgery- I got the "feedbag" of popcorn with butter and ate most all of it myself. Popcorn and sugar - like cake frosting were it for me. I am terribly afraid to go down the sugar path so I don't. I will eat a SF pudding if I'm craving something sweet. Now I'm off to read your popcorn blog!

I do eat popcorn too and dearly love it. For the movies (I didn't even TRY this until over 2 months out) I bring a small, sandwich size baggie and fill it with popcorn. I eat only one kernel at a time and try to "think" about it. I concentrate on the texture, taste, and keep mindful of the quantity. That being said, if I am going to slip and over eat popcorn is the only thing I can do that with...therefore I have decided to stop having it at my house.

I told my hubby last night that we are done with popcorn here at the house, so he (working nights and had last night off) polished off the popcorn for me last night...I am SURE it was a labor of love on his part LOL!! Now the trick is to stay away from that part of the store. I just don't want to go back to mindless eating and I was seeing the writing on the wall with popcorn.
God gave us people to love and things to use, not things to love and people to use.

I am glad to hear there are people out there who slip up, if we were all perfect we wouldn't need a sleeve. Keep up the good work.

I eat a couple of handfuls several times a week. Maybe a couple of handfuls on a regular basis will help you stave off the cravings.

When we used to go to movies we'd have 'popcorn salad' - Largest bag, extra-extra-extra butter, add in box or 2 of skittles/smarties/Rosebuds/Goobers/any Chocolate caramel type things, M & M's, etc. and any other small items which gives you a bite of sweet & salt all in one. Mmmmmm! It will be the downfall for me if I don't wear some kind of protective head armour to prevent any eating when I go to the theatre. Picturing medieval iron mask covering mouth...Yeah, That might do the trick

That's funny you should say that, I never saw that until yesterday when I was watching my favorite show on demand - hawaii 5-0 (masculine enough for you?)

At the fight scene the big Hawaiin native dude poored like chocolate covered peanuts or something into his bucket of popcorn it was wild looking...

Me I had a big popcorn and a family size bag of peanut or regular M&M's but not mixed....
