Can anyone share how was the pain after sleeve surgery? On a scale from 0 to 10 with pain medication. Does the pain medication take away all the pain or is there still pain left and how strong?
My pain was not bad at all. The only real pain was when they woke me up from surgery, but very short lived. I think I took pain meds for only 2 or 3 days.
I took the pain relief offered in the hospital (2 days) but once home I didn't require anything. I didn't have pain more discomfort like I'd done 1000 sit ups. Moving from laying down to sitting up was interesting but once I was shown to roll on my side. stick my legs over the edge of the bed and push myself up with my arms its was much better. Holding a pillow over the stomach area can help if you cough or sneeze. Seriously it wasn't bad at all.
I only needed Tylenol in hospital, and a few days after WALK WALK WALK to keep gas pain at bay. Pain meds don't work for that. Nap. Walk. Drink water. It's probably the easiest of any surgery I've ever had, and a had a minor complication w bleeding and had extra day in hospital.
My particular bariatric surgeon also gave an IV nerve med (neurotonin, I think) prior to sleeve. Stomach doesn't have too many nerves compared to the rest of our body, and honestly. No pain to speak of.
Don't worry about pain. Think of the amazing life you have to look forward to, healthy and normal sized. It's so much fun!
So, I had the surgery in June 2020, and I am surprised that it didn't hurt at all. Doctors before surgery told me that they will give me strong pills for pain but that will cover only 75% of the pain. It wasn't like that at all. I didn't even take them, since I didn't need them. However, nausea was quite unpleasant. It lasted 2 full days after surgery. I couldn't keep anything down. Excellent news: first week I lost 15 lbs. LOVING IT!
