Has anyone skipped their antibiotics post op? and does anyone take vitamins for energy?

Does anyone feel slightly weak after the surgery? I feel like that a little and I am having difficulty swallowing my regular meds. Therefore, I have not taken the antibiotics that Dr. Almanza gave me. Has anyone skipped these and is doing fine?

Hey Taz, I wouldnt skip them. I am assuming they started an abx in the hospital. If you dont complete them you can get an infection including MRSA which is resistive to any meds. The first couple of doses I cut in 4. Today I only halfed it, got stuck in my throat and I had to cough it out. If you need to cut it in 4 & it takes 1/2 hour to down it its better than not taking it.

I wasn't able to take the antibiotics that Dr. Almanza gave either - too big to swallow and made me SOOOO sick. I went to my family doctor and he gave me a different prescription. It's important to take something so cutting in 4 like Sarah says or getting a new prescription is the way to go. Take care.

The local surgeons send everyone home w/liquid painkillers, antibiotics, and probiotics. I am going to check w/my PCP to see if he can prescribe them for me before I go to Mexico. I'm also going to ask him for Depo Provera.

One of the local surgeons told me that I could not take my glucophage, birth control or any other pills for a month.

i take shots of b12 2x a week and its helped my energy

When I had my op I was told to take a Supradyn multivitamin which are soluble. Because they are fizzy you do need to let them go 'flat' for a bit, then sip slowly.
As for my normal medications, i.e., in my case, for Diabetes, blood pressure, reflux, the teeny tiny tablets were OK to swallow whole, but the Diabetes tabs had to be crushed. I bought a mortar and pestle for this purpose.....UGLY tasting things they were! Couldn't wait until I could at least break them in two, now I swallow everything whole.
I even sussed out liquid panadol when I was on the all liquid stage, as the crushed pain relief tablets tasted equally as vile as the diabetic meds.

I couldn't take the pills right away after my surgery. I tried every day, about the fifth day I was able to start taking them. I was fine, but it is a risk to not take them.
