So I had my scope Friday and found out I have a Hiatal Hernia. Did anyone else have this and get it repaired during the sleeve surgery? I am already nervous so this has made my anxiety somewhat worse for me.
Hiatal hernias are relatively common in obese people. Surgery is the only way to effectively treat them. If you're surgeon wants to repair it during the surgery, you should absolutely have it taken care of - otherwise it may mean another surgery in the future. Nothing to be anxious about, as you can see from the other posts, it is commonly repaired during sleeve surgery without issue.
I suspect that I have one also, but since I am self-pay I've had very limited pre-op testing. I have one more visit with my surgeon tomorrow before surgery next Thursday - I think I'll discuss this with him. So glad you posted this.
I had one and it was removed 6 months before surgery. I was told it was best to have it removed before surgery rather than at the time of surgery because of the healing process. Probably because of me having MS but I don't know that for sure.
