    Default Stuck

I am coming up on 1 year post op and I have been stuck at the same weight for the last 3 to 4 months. Before then I had been losing weight and following a good eating plan. I also wasn't that hungry. Then I faltered and started adding carbs I know I shouldn't have added and have had such a difficult time trying to take them out again. I now have a taste for sweets again that is really scary for me. Also after 6 mos my appetite really picked up and my stomach accommodates larger amounts of food compared to the first 6 mos post surgery. I am kinda scared that I have stretched out my stomach. I am really proud and happy that I have lost nearly 75 pounds and am very grateful for what that has done for my health however I was really hoping to get to a realistic goal of weighing 160. Unfortunately I am so arthritic in many joints that I can't do recreational activities like walking or hiking that would boost some calorie burning. I do swim about 3 days a week which is all my joints can tolerate.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone tried doing the reset regimens, has that worked to decrease your appetite?

HI, I am just on a year out and I am too stuck at a weight. I think it might just be our bodies starting to settle at a weight. I think it was always going to be difficult to lose the last bit. I agree about eating more, however just try and be sensible about your choices. Good luck .

    Hi there,

Resets don't exist. But you need to stay positive and stay focused on your journey.

Too much carb will not help weight loss for sure. Try to track your food for a few days, and stay under 80gr carb per day. When I'm over 100gr, I don't lose anything even if my calorie intake is under my BMR. Also I would recommend to eat at least 60gr protein for a woman, and increase the good fat (avocado, almonds, cheese) because they will stop the hunger and won't play yoyo with your glycemia.

You should stay on a moderate low carb until you reach goal, have veggies if you are too hungry. But for sure don't drink during meal, stop drinking 30 mns before and start 30 after. Water is our friend, drinking more can also help with hunger. I do feel that after the sleeve hunger and thirst have mixed signals, which they didn't pre-op.

We don't usually gain weight in a few months. Weight loss is the same, it does require some time, your body needs time to adjust it's metabolism. I lost my surgeon's "projection's weight loss" in two years since I do have several medical issues that do slow the process.I wanted to lose even more but it will have to wait for after my next surgery.

I would add that if you have joints issues, taking omega 3 could help a lot, because it will calm down inflammation. It does for me.

    Stay positive!!
    Take care

I ditto Sandra3. Staying positive is key. Look how far you’ve come!

I eat berries to satisfy my “sweet tooth” or make a berry, nonfat plain yogurt “smoothie”. Making adjustments begins to become second nature.

Resets do help you kick the cravings for carbs and get your mind right. It does not reset your "pouch" as we do not have a pouch. You can try this.

I don't believe in pouch "resets".
With that "reset" you just eat less.
    For 5 days.
    And after that?
It takes 3 months to form a new habit, not 5 days.
When you really stretched your stomach, there is no way of "unstretching" it.

But I don't believe that you can stretch out your stomach in the first year.
Of course your stomach can accomodate more food than in the beginning.
It is supposed to be like that.

You know exactly what to do now.
Start eating the way a sleeved person should.
Your honeymoon is still not over, make the most of it.
You have lost so much already, you will loose those last pesky pounds as well.
But you have to start working on that again.
And continue to do so for the rest of your life.
No one said it would be easy...

Here is an indication of the volume of your sleeve.
Sorry for the quality of the photo, I took the photo of my computer.

English is not my first language anymore, so I may and do make mistakes in my spelling, or say things oddly. Please ask me, if you want any clarifications.

Good for you getting involved in swimming, instead of just saying you can't exercise. Go you!!

Carbs and sugar are a slippery slope. Just stop! Once you're stopped you won't crave them anymore. It sounds crazy but it's true. Just go back to how you should be eating and your weight will start to drop again. Not sure how much you have to lose, could it be you are close to goal? Then things slow up.

I was 7 pounds over goal from a bad winter, and finally lost it, basically by dropping the carbs and sugar. On a road trip now, for lunch yesterday was Chick-Fil-A grilled nuggets, for dinner blackened salmon and broccoli. YUM! It's all about choices. You've got this.

I think all those pouch resets are a joke, as does my nutritionist. She says it won't hurt you, if you want to do it, call it a "mind reset." But I'd prefer real food.
