    Default Iron Infusion :(

So i was wondering if anyone else has had trouble with their iron levels after surgery? Normal ranges for Iron is 15-150 mine was 6. I have been literally freezing to death for months and excessively tired so i went to the Dr. to check my levels 2 months ago he checked my b12 and my H/H and they were fine. well it got so bad this past week i finally went back to the Dr. and said look can you just check my Ferritin and sure enough was low.... now i have to have an iron infusion so wondering if anyone else has had these issues. I know its a possibility with Iron and other deficiencies.

I've had iron deficiency anemia for most of my life. I started getting iron infusions about 10 years ago. Usually about 4 a year and will go back to my Hematologist next Monday to prepare for another round. Anytime I have surgery, getting infusions shortly after is a must. So I'm almost a month out from VSG and it's time because my level of fatigue is unbearable sometimes. The process isn't bad though. If it's your first infusion then they'll give you a 30 minute drip to make sure there's no allergic reaction after that and each infusion after it's an hour drip. I usually feel a little better within a day or so after an infusion.

I have been ok with my levels, at least I was before surgery. I haven't gotten them checked after as of yet. I go in for another post op checkup on October 1.

I have had to take iron infusions in the past, as I am anemic and have Poly cystic ovarian syndrome which caused EXTREMELY heavy periods. I have been all right as of late, (knock wood), and I'm eager to see how the levels are now.

    Good luck!

My sister has had issues with low iron. She still does. She has been sleeved for almost 7 years but to be fair she does not have a good diet and our mother was anemic.

Hi, Yes I had this problem before surgery so it kind of worked out that all around that time I had a few iron infusions. Ferritin was in my boots. Exhausted. You know the story! I do love an iron infusion though, made me feel a million dollars eventually! Is your hair falling out? Mine did thin a bit due to low ferritin and ive only just realised that now as it suddenly seems much thicker and I can see bits growing back in. But like I say it was before surgery so not sure how much surgery had to do with it, I think it probably had already thinned and I hadn't noticed. I do hope you feel much better soon. It is unpleasant to feel so exhausted.

Well an update. I had my iron checked by my bariatric dr and my primary and my hematologist. My iron is in the toilet. I have to go for iron infusions again. I’m not too happy, but at least it explains why I’ve been so exhausted lately.
    I’ll keep you all updated.
