Default Surgery in October, very nervous

Well, just got the call, surgery is planned for October 9.
I am extremely nervous, lots of anxiety. I am reading and heard people gaining weight after 1 year, I know is not a magic pill, but is scary and for life.
I read other posts of successful people.
Will turn 64 and had the band before, could not lose more than 20 pounds.
I am hoping to receive some replies to this post of people that had the sleeve for a while and get a bit of reassurance that I will be ok. It is scary!

I too was very scared. I almost backed out but am so thankful I didn't. I was 57 when I had my surgery. Don't talk yourself out of surgery. It will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself.

    Thank you.
How long ago did you have the surgery?
How is day to day life now?

I had surgery almost 3 years ago. I've lost about 90 lbs. Since losing the initial weight I've stayed within 5 lbs. They put me on a new insulin about a month ago and am having a harder time. After surgery and probably around the six-month mark when you could start eating most foods again - the one thing that kind of bothered me was not being able to drink before and after eating. I have always been a water or tea drinker when eating a meal. Honestly I do not follow that rule that much. I don't drink as much at dinner time but I still drink. I can eat anything I could before surgery (not as much) with the exception of "greasy" foods. Foods that you can see are too greasy. I also - even now - have an issue with getting hot flashes after eating - especially when eating in a restaurant. I'm sure it's from eating too fast and I am still working on trying to slow that down. I'm also not a fan of taking all the vitamins but I do. You will do fine. I am so happy that I did this and only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

I will be 5 years out in October, it's a lucky month for both of us, the month that changed my life and will change yours. Lost all my weight and kept it off. At 61 I'm living an amazingly active life (just retired)! Skied over 2 weeks this winter, climbed mountains in Colorado this summer, and now we're in Washington state climbing mountains. Off to the Olympic Peninsula tomorrow! Then biking in Wisconsin in September, more Colorado climbs in October, and 2 weeks hiking in Sicaly late October. Then it's almost ski season. Rinse and repeat. I'm sure you can't tell how excited I am about my new life.

Flying to Seattle I got the middle seat and the lady by the window looked at me and said, "So happy to be sitting by a small person!" I'm sure she had no clue what a compliment that was.

That is fantastic! Wow you go girl!
I will need to find me a partner to do activities together since my husband does not even walk with me. He had 2 back surgeries and his hip hurt after a short walk.
Well, I am doing this for myself so I can live longer and be able to retired with energy to travel and hope to hike too.
I know that I have 100 pounds to lose and a program to follow. I am working on my mind now since it is my worse enemy....

I can remember flying when I was heavy and being embarrassed because the seat belt did not fit. I just tucked it under my clothing. I can also remember being even more embarrassed when part of my body was taking up residency in the seat next to me. Things are much better now!!

I was sleeved 10/5 last year and as Sharon said, it's a lucky month! I've found it to be one of my best adult life decisions, right up there with marrying my wonderful best friend, Jim.

I also found it easy to do the holidays -- I still love to cook, and I could "taste" a tiny bit of everything, and then beg off with "I've tasted while I cooked, just not hungry"....and congratulations! You will do beautifully

I am only going to be 2 years post op in November and I have not gained any weight. My sister is almost 7 years post op and has only gained about 10 lbs but she did it on purpose as she has gotten too skinny. Once she gained the 10 lbs and found her happy weight she has maintained ever since with no issues.
