I was wondering how similar the pain from having gastric sleeve was to having your gall bladder removed? I've had my gall bladder removed and that wasn't too bad so just curious if the pain is similar.
Yes, my gallbladder was removed laparoscopically as well -and they’re pretty similar as far as incisions. Maybe one of my VSG incisions was a bit larger . I also took a bit more Rest too... Well that could be the 20 year difference in my age, too
You just need to be a careful when you’re getting up from bed or moving positions, etc. Be careful while you’re healing and with your drinking and eating as well (you will want to anyway!) and that’s about it!
I remember my gallbladder hurting quite a bit. My gastric sleeve was all nausea and no pain.

The gb was a lot more painful and the pain lasted a lot longer too. The sleeve was a lot easier and Your walking as soon as you wake up and I walked a lot and frequently unlike the gb. The sleeve pain lasted only a few days and i never needed narcotic pain meds. Everyone is different but shouldn’t be worse than your gb experience. Good luck with everything.
You're kinda right about the narcotics. I remember getting morphine after my gallbladder removal. But - I wanted morphine after gastric sleeve, but I kinda knew they wouldn't give it to me. I think I knew early on my choices were tylenol or tramadol. That and an anti-nausea medication was all the nurses were gonna give me.
I also think age is a big factor. If I had gastric sleeve 15 years ago, I doubt it would have been as painful. And I also knew to expect pain, and was told by this forum and friends that the only thing that would really help would be lots of walking, not drugs.
