Upcoming big step with gastric sleeve surgery

Hi, I made the big decision to have surgery to start the journey toward 125 lb weight loss. Pretty nervous about this since I have 20 years of disappointing myself on previous attempts. I know this is a life style change and I've made those commitments in the past. I'm hoping that the investment and the post op requirements will be what it takes to keep my commitments to myself this time. I'm also going to look for a local support group as well. I feel your nervousness and pain! I did the rollercoaster up and down dieting and weight loss for years before taking this step. I have absolutely no regrets, but I do still struggle daily with my relationship with food. It is so easy to say, "I've been so good and done so well for the last .... days, this (insert bad food here) won't hurt me....". I stress and worry about maintaining my current weight. It is a daily challenge. Who knows where I will be in 3, 5, or 10 years... I have embraced the lifestyle change associated with my sleeve, but there are days I could see slipping back into the bad eating with zero exercise routine. I keep a dairy (Myfitnesspal) of everything I eat everyday. I also exercise daily and set goals for myself so I stay on track.

Getting involved in a support group is definitely a huge plus. I wish there was a decent group here where I live, but I haven't found one yet. Find a group that works for you and stick to it! Also, everyone is different, and some plans work for some people and not for others. Find a food plan that works for you (post surgery) and use it. If it isn't working be flexible and be ready to try something else while sticking to the ground rules (Protein, protein protein).

I've been amazed what a great tool the sleeve is! And I find a lot of safety feeling like I cannot over eat without consequences (other than overweight, which really didn't deter me). I would not jeopardize my health or my sleeve by over eating. I do have to work on getting back to the gym.
