    Wink Newbie

Hi guys! I'm a newbie to the sleeve. Well, almost. I'm awaiting insurance approval. I've jumped through all the hoops, and anxiously waiting for my surgery date.

Any tips on the liquid diet before surgery? Things you wish you had known yourself beforehand? I understand everyone experiences this journey differently, so I am interested in any and all tips! I'm nervous!! Ty!

Hi. Welcome! I joined only yesterday. I'm like you, I'm waiting to see my surgeon, finally next week, to set a date, I hope. I also would like to know things that I might should know before having the sleeve. Good luck!

    Greetings Jenny11:11!

Welcome to the gastric sleeve community! You will quickly find that there is a plethora of individuals here both pre and post-op who are more than willing to share their stories, their successes and failures, and their tips and tricks (although there really aren't any tricks to this procedure) with you.

While you are correct in stating that "everyone experiences this journey differently," the reality is that we are not as different as one would think. I mean, sure, our surgeons each have their personal preferences regarding how things should be accomplished, but that aside, we are obtaining the same goal: to become healthier, slimmer, trimmer, and happier.

I would look to your dietician for the full liquids diet advice. They have the best options your surgeon would most prefer. In addition, I found several videos on YouTube that openly discuss some items that might be of interest to you, i.e.: jello, powerade, protein shakes, etc. You can obtain much the same information here, but in the meantime, that is a decent starting place.

Once again, welcome to the community, and have a great week!

    Welcome.
As Shannon said there are loads of wonderful folk here who are only too willing to share their experiences.
Use the search function, ask loads of questions -there will be someone who has as answer.
My only advise re the pre surgery liquid diet (and they all seem to be different depending on who your surgeon is) is that it was the worst part of the whole process for me - However, it was only for a limited time and I knew that it was for a great reason. The end result is just wonderful.
And it wasn't really that bad! :-)

Welcome Jenny!! Glad to have you here. Hopefully you will get your surgery date soon. The liquid diet is a bit tougher pre op but post op it is a breeze. Just do the best you can, keep your eye on the prize, and remember why you are doing this. The first week post op is the most difficult but it will get a bit easier each day. You got this. Ask any specific questions you have.

Thanks everybody! I'll keep in touch. I'm from Western NY, having my surgery at ECMC. Is there anybody here from this area?

My nutritionist told me to take home some of those 1 oz. cups. I'm glad she did. It really helped. The day after surgery, I drank only a couple of oz. of water and protein shakes. She told me to drink 1 oz. in 15 mins. I learned to drink 1/3 of the oz. every 5 mins. I was glad to finally figure that out two weeks later. Good luck, Kim
