Default Mirror mirror on the wall...

How many of you still see fat girl when you look in the mirror? I have lost 51 lbs as of this weekend! Don't get me wrong i am thrilled very happy so far and hopefully will continue to loose a bit more. I have not lost very fast and i am ok with that, My doctor said i wouldn't loose fast because i didn't have as much to loose as most who have had this surgery according to him..plus every body type is different i know and i get it...

so anyway, getting comfortable in my own skin again has been how you say Odd.... people say to me now you don't need to loose anymore!!! your getting to skinny not words that i am use to hearing at all. A lot of times it frustrates me because i am still adapting to the mental change because i still see fat girl when i look in the mirror even though i know i am wearing a size 8 instead of a size 18 now. When shopping with my 13 yr old i go to the big girls section still and she says mom you know you cant wear that now... Most often times i have to look at before and after photos to realize how much weight i have really lost. Am i the only "fruit cake" that thinks this way?

Congrats on your weight loss! 51 lbs is a great accomplishment!

Yeah, there is a big mental adjustment. Over a year out from surgery, and I still can't get over how I look and have to do a double take at times....

I get a lot of people who tell me I need to stop losing. Ironically I am not really losing anymore, but can easily if I want to. I'm happy here at 183 or so pounds, but some days I think about trying to see what 179 feels like..... I might try to lose 5 - 10 more pounds in preparation for triathlon season (race weight). I never know how to respond to people that tell me that I am too skinny. But I just remind myself that only people that knew me when I was festively plump say that. People who didn't know the fat me never think I'm too skinny.

    Cheers!

Congratulations on your weightloss your doing good. I only had a brief moment when I didn’t realize my size. For the most part I realized and saw the smaller person I was becoming. Keep working on it you will come around and let go of those old imagines and come to love the women you see in the mirror. All the best to you.

Congratulations on your weight loss journey. 8 weeks post op and I am down 34 pounds. I don't see it but others do. However, I can tell by the way my clothes are fitting. My coworker this morning had to convince me that I'm doing great. Therefore, I get what you're experiencing and you're not the only fruit cake (as you say) that only thinks that way. It takes time to adjust to the new you I've been reading. The surgery changed our stomach capacity not our mental physique especially after being fluffy for so long. So, it's perfectly natural. Enjoy the knew you! You've worked too hard to get here so don't punish yourself with negative thoughts!! Keep up the great work!!

I completely understand. I think for me I had come to hate my old self and carried so much shame for allowing myself to get so big that when I started loosing the weight I slowly started feeling better both physically and emotionally that made it easier to see the smaller person I was becoming.
Everyone is different and gets there on their own time schedule. This as been an amazing ride. ECF6DD64-0A9E-41D3-908E-6DA4831D28E4.jpeg86608AB7-7DF5-48E7-8845-3DF50CDEFDD1.jpeg

You're not alone! I think it's a pretty common phenomenon. I feel the same way. I look at pictures of myself and think "man, I've lost over 100 lbs, and I still look huge". But then I compare the old pics to now and I see it. I still look at the clothes that are way too big for me. When I see something that actually fits now, I'm surprised how much smaller it is than what I used to wear.

I guess it just takes getting used to!
    Congrats!!!

Down 51 pounds is a great feat!

Everyone above is correct! To be honest i didn't realize how small I've become until this past weekend when I went wedding dress shopping with my daughter and her best friend. She found her dress and we took a picture together. I am still shocked. Yes I see my bones sticking out in the mirror but the 'fat' me still sees me as such. I'll be a year out this month. So no you're not the only fruitcake

I always do a double-take when I see myself in the mirror. I don't see a fat person, I see a regular-sized person. But it surprises me every time!

I love the new me. I like to look at myself. I still get taken aback when I unexpectedly see my reflection like in a window or something. It is a nice surprise. I never get tired of people calling me skinny or tiny. It is a badge of honor after being fat for so long.
