    Default Today was the day!

Like the title says, I went in about 8:45 this morning and everything was a success!!! I did have a hiatal hernia which was repaired and now tomorrow morning I’ll have my x-rays to make sure there’s no leaks. I have to say I really do feel pretty good. My biggest discomfort I have now is from the gas. My nurse told me just to kinda rock back-and-forth in bed a little bit and it’s been working, just thought I’d pass that on. I have to say it was a rough couple of months from initial consult now, lots of second thoughts and second guessing myself, but I’m sure I made the right decision. I’m actually proud of myself that I did not cheat one time in my two week pre-op diet. I know it sounds totally cheesy but in the end I would only be cheating myself. Well I think it’s time to turn in and see what tomorrow brings. If I can be of any advice to anyone else believe me when I say hasn’t been that bad both the preop and these last several hours since surgery. If I can do it anybody can, so best of luck to everyone who hasn’t had theirs yet. Just be strong, stick to the doctors instructions and it’ll be all right.

    Congratulations and Good Job!
The preop and the worries about surgery are over, for me that was the hardest part of the process.
Now it's just about recovery and working your way through your surgeons allowed food stages, it will all go by quicker than you think. And the pounds will come off fast!
When I was immediately post op - the mantra was "Sip, Sip, Sip(on fluids) - Walk, Walk, Walk(the halls) - Suck, Suck Suck(on that inspirometer thingy for your lungs)"

    HW 1Y B4 Surg: 378 lbs
    Start Pre-Op Diet: 353 lbs (-25 lbs)

Congrats Devin. This week will be hard at times but it will get easier each day. Walking frequently will also help with the gas. And the most important focus this week is staying hydrated. Just remember to keep sipping. Welcome to your new lease on life!! You can totally do this!!

Congrats Devin! I'll also add to make sure and use that incentive spirometer.....part of my lung collapsed because I wasn't doing enough deep breathing. Not fun.....you're going to do great!!

Wow thank you all so much, you really are great! I had a rough day yesterday when I started trying to drink, I was very nauseous but that has passed and now I am where I need to be so I think today I will be discharged. I still have to say pain wise not so bad my biggest discomfort is from the gas and that too is subsiding. All in all I’m pretty excited as my new journey begins. Once again thank you everybody I will keep everyone updated. Trust me when I say it’s not that bad, I think the end result will more than justify a couple of weeks of not feeling so good. At least I hope so.

Love your attitude! Congrats on a successful surgery. You are SO RIGHT that the end result is worth a few weeks of feeling a little yucky.

OK I have to admit I am feeling way better than I thought I would be for being four days post surgery. It makes me happy and it makes me feel like I can take on the world. LOL. Can’t wait to see what the future holds.
