Default 5 days since surgery and feeling good

Hi there, I am am new to this group and have been enjoying reading about different journeys. I am 5 days post op and am really surprised about how well I feel. I am sore from op but have been able to keep my fluids up and drink small amounts of meal supplement shakes, today I have a home made chicken soup that I blitzed up.

My pre op weight was 80 kilos and I am now 74 kilos, amazing. I cannot wait to drop more and fit back into my skinny clothes.

How long is it until I am able to exersise, does anyone know? And more importantly, when will I be able to enjoy a glass of wine? 🙃

Every surgeon has their own opinion of when exercise is ok. My surgeon told me to listen to my body and if it hurt to stop. I did that. As for wine, they say one year but I did not wait that long. Just be aware that you may get drunk easier due to small food intake. Also, avoid the carbonated wines. I want to say I had alcohol just a few months post op. But I nursed it. And it was one drink. LOL. Also, if you have no self control with alcohol I would avoid it.

I was able to exercise at 2 weeks, walk before that. And I can't remember when I started a little wine, maybe 4 months?

    Glad you're doing so well!

I was encouraged to start walking immediately, within a few hours post-op. I was allowed to start weight training approximately six weeks post-op.

I had my first glass of wine on my 1-year surgiversary. I didn't drink during my first year post-surgery because alcohol contains a bunch of empty calories that would have further slowed my losses.

Thanks all. I have a holiday booked for August so may save my 1 glass of wine for that I own a horse and am thinking it will be at least 6 weeks before I can ride again. I am not the most patient of people but do want to get back into the gym as soon as possible x

Hello, so good to see someones post that just had surgery. I am having surgery in a few days and am scared and nervous. I don't tolerate surgery well to begin with (anesthesia issues) and I'm nervous about everything I guess. I am glad you are doing well. That's encouraging to read.

    HI Balmain
It is nice to see a fellow UK resident on this forum, as most are either form Oz/NZ or America. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and am itching to get back into proper exercise not just walking, but I will wait the required 6 weeks. It does take time for your insides to heal. As for wine as a teetotal I have never asked the question, but I assume it will be a while and its best to ask your dietitian what is allowed. Alcohol has empty calories and also it may affect you differently now that you have a smaller stomach. Good luck with your journey and keep it up.

Hey TonewB, it is natural to be nervous as it's nor only a lifestyle change but as you say, the surgery also. I was really nervous too but I kept thinking about that bikini body I used to have and visualising my life in my new body. It helped me so maybe give that a go. As for post surgery, the hospital staff REALLY look after you and you will be given meds that make you drowsy. Embrace them and sleep as much as you can. Day 2 was pretty much the same but by day 3 I felt really ok.

    You got this xx

    Hi,
I was back at crossfit and running at 8 weeks, I was too exhausted before that so just walked. Riding hmmm I would wait till about 8 weeks and then only ride if your horse is bomb proof... Ive never been fortunate with the horses I've had! LOL!
Wine... I would wait a good 4 months at least but this is only my story... I tried some sips early on and it didn't end well, I had a lot of time on the toilet! But now at 6 months I can manage half a glass but I feel a bit tipsy on that. My advice is to try it out at home first, and if you drink when you are out make sure you are with someone you can trust with your life. Honestly, it can really end nasty if you're not careful. I also agree if you have an issue with alcohol stay away. But yeah you will probs be fine :-)
