It is hard but just keep in mind that if you do cheat and eat that when you get to your surgery date the dr. might not do your surgery. And you have dreamed and waited for that day. so stay focused and it will be ok. I did the 7 day and had my surgery on 9/23/2011 and have lost 30 lbs. so stay focused.!

Okay, so I was gungho...started my liquid protein diet for two weeks preop instead of one...did two days clear preop instead of one. However, if you slip up, just press the "restart button" and carry on. I'm on post-op 4 week liquid protein diet...at first, I was arrogant and thought I would just do it my own way but after throwing up once (not intentionally!), I said to myself "this is what I always do, thinking I know more than the doctor or whatever...just follow his prescription and quit fooling around". Since then I've been fairly content...don't love the shakes but down them every hour from a 3 oz. dixi cup. I've still nibbled at a piece of cheeze left out ...got terrible stomach ache...some of us are just doing out best and the best way is to keep persisting and do more right than wrong.

I only had to do liquid diet 1 day before surgery. You have to do 7 days liquid pre-op? That's rough. I am 7 days post-op tomorrow. At least post-op, I haven't felt so hungry til today. My biggest problem with the liquid is almost everything we can have is sweet. Protein drinks, sugar free jello, pudding, & popsicles. You can throw in some chicken broth & tomato soup for something savory but that gets a little tiresome as well. I have been on 7 days of mostly really sweet liquids. Variety of taste & texture would be sooo nice. I still have a week to go on liquids, then I get pureed foods. Never thought I would be so excited about Taco Bell beans & cheese or tuna with lite mayo. I am having a hard time too, but taking it day by day. It helps when you see the scale go down, I have lost 9 lbs., that always makes me think I can make it one more day, then I say the same thing the next day. Hang in there, we can do it!!!! Good luck to you.

Keep thinking of your surgery, go off the diet, no surgery and possible major complications if you lie about it, or let food once again win.

The thing that has saved my life is a product called "better than bouillon" ...it comes in 3 flavors some are salt reduced, i just hate the taste of regular bouillon cubes and this tastes really gourmet. Also i have found whatever hubby makes for dinner i can mix a little in with my better than bouillion and throw it in the blender for a couple minutes and presto i have a gourmet meal.

Daily, i also take a couple of bottles of ensure protein drinks(chocolate, or butter peacan) or (vanilla blended with some peanut butter) amazing how desperate you get to have some flavor!!

im just starting my 3rd week post gastric sleeve by Dr Ramos Kelly. Trish was fabulous, i could not have done it without her support.

You can put unflavored Unjury into jello before it sets to get more protein in. It gives the jello a sort of opaque, milky color, but it still counts as a clear liquid.

I made my own broth so I knew I liked it. Sugar free popscicles were and still are a big help. I just weighed the liquid diet phase against no more prescription meds, cute clothes, a healthier me. As someone said, mind over matter. Also made sure to keep super busy.

I had to watch John do the liquid diet and it broke my heart. It' miserable. Although I feel that its easier on you post surgery of you do the preop liquid diet. People said he was crazy and didn't have to do the 2 week diet but I couldn't let him risk his health or the money for the surgery. He lost 10 lbs preop cheating. Just imagine how much he could have without cheating. Now it's post op, it's not easy transitioning the foods for him which I find great cause that's just that much more he is going to lose. Gotta start these protein shakes I didn't realize that they make you feel full. That ' gonna be such a success around here, considering its a problem with him. He got sick the other day cause he wasn't full (didn't give his food time to settle) so he ate more. Dont' get discouraged and think about the positives.
    In 1999 I was at 320 lbs. In 2009 I was at 265 lbs.
Most I've weighed is before surgery.
Lost 20 lbs through pre-op diet.

This will definitely be the toughest diet in the history of diets that you've been on. Just keep your eye on the prize and know it won't last forever. I did a two week liquid diet before surgery and a 4 week right after surgery. That will be the worst of it. Trust us that it will get easier. The pre-op is the worst of it. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
    Highest Weight: 252
    Weight day 1 Pre-Op Diet 9/10/2012: 248
Weight day of surgery 9/24/2012: 233.2
Weight two days after surgery 244 (Fluid retention)

I have a 2 week liquid diet beginning on 11/21 .... worried about how to survive myself. Today I did basically a liquid diet, however it was more than the doctor prescribed liquid diet.... and I'm a bit hungry.... I wish you luck... Keep your eye on the prize. I did a two week liquid diet. It was very hard but also very exciting and I realized alot about myself during that time. Food addict...yes me. Agitated by "normal" people who can eat anything and be "normal" size. Ready for a life change. All in. Kept my eye on the prize. (oh yes, I did cheat on occasion with some low fat microwave popcorn or baked lays...I had to crunch something!) The surgeon said my liver was still pretty fatty but THANK GOD he was able to safely do my surgery. Stick to it! You can do this!!!
