    Unhappy New sleeve patient

My name is carla. I had lapband revision to the gastric sleeve 2 months ago. It did not go well. I ended up staying in the hospital for 9 days because of swelling and food not going down. I ended up with a stent for 6 weeks. I suffered off and on from chest and back pain from the stent. The weekend before the removal was pure hell! I was nauseated and in pain. Well, after removal i am pain free but still suffer from bouts of nauseu from time to time. I have only lost 24 pounds, 10 of them prior to surgery. I am having a rough time getting all the water down and i just don't know what to eat. I am having to eat crackers to keep the nausea at bay sometimes and i know this is not a good thing. Anyone have nausea last that long? I

Hi Carla, I’m so sorry your going through a tough time. Hopefully our member who had the Sleeve in January when I did who had to have stents also will see your message and can help answer your questions. Most likely because you’ve been sick and your not eating nourishing food your body thinks your in starvation mode and your metabolism as slowed way down. Hopefully you will start feeling better and you can start eating a healthy diet and exercise and the weight should start coming off. You might ask your PCP for nausea meds. I get nausea sometimes from gastroparesis and now Vertigo and I take phenergan. It works great and allows me to eat. Hope you feel better soon.

Second WLS are always a bit more tricky and lose slower. A lot of people go from band to sleeve because of issues with the band. As for nausea, being dehydrated can make you more nauseous. You need to really work on getting your fluids in. If you have to put a timer on your phone to bing to remind you to sip then I would suggest doing that. Have you spoken with your surgeon about the continued nausea? You may need to actually get IV fluids. It does happen from time to time. I am sorry you are having a tough go at it. Wishing you the best of luck and hoping you begin to heal and recover soon.
