Default Anyone have problems with Sugar

Hi, I have been having a hard time lately (PMSing) and eating sugar and salt even though I know how to make the right choices..its been hard.

Anyway, everytime I eat a piece of chocolate or a cookie I physically feel like crap..pains in my stomach and tons of gas..it is possible we get "dumping" syndrome just like bypass patients? I know this sounds like a stupid question but I wasn't sure if tht is possible.

Also, any tips for getting back on track? I have lost about 65lbs since the beginning of May when I had my surgery until now and I see so many people losing much more. I know everyone is different but I get frustrated when I hear these things. I guess I just some inspiration.

    Anything helps Thanks

Hi! Sorry to hear your having such a hard time. It does happen with the PMS. I would increase water intake and exercise I would ramp up the week before the period to help manage water and such. I don't think dumping syndrome happens with sleevers only b/c we don't bypass our pylorie. But I do believe there are foods that cause diahrrea and cramping. I have experienced this with sugar alcohols found in sugarfree foods. Make sure you are eating all your protien first. If that doesn't help I would see a nutritionist to review what your getting for nutrients. I am finding the sleevers have a lot more lee way so to speak. Check your diet, drink more water and exercise more. If that fails and you may want to see your doc and get a referral to the Nutritionist. best wishes, Lori
P.S I often feel like I am fighting for every pound. this has not been an easy journey although I am succeeding. You have done an amazing job! Congrats on your 65 pound weightloss!

Hi Christine, maybe is a good thing that your body is not taking sugar too well this way you stay away from it and stay on track. I only had a bad experience with sugar once it was like 2 weeks post op, my husband bought me some protein shakes and we didn't realize all the sugar it had until i started feeling very weird. I was sweating cold and felt a little dizzy so from there on i stayed away from sugar for awhile. Today 2 months post op i can eat sugar and this worries me. I am afraid to mess up.

I'm trying to cut down on sugar. I crave chocolate, and when I eat sugarfree products, it causes diaretic problems. So I try to be balanced and put proteins first, so I will have more self control. It will always be a challenge, but we have a tool to work with to help us be more successful. The sweating, naseua & chills are going away now since I am 6 months out. It gets better. My advice is to stay away from salad bars, so you won't over eat. Lol...Bonnie

My rule is simple. No simple sugars ever. 6 months now. There are some great candy bar like protein bars out there that have 15 grams protein and 15 grams carbs. They taste yummy. I will have one when the craving hits a few times a week tops. I am so anal I will only eat one if there is no more carbs than protein. Supreme protein, Oh Yeah, and Power crunch are what I eat. Also Healthwise from my doctor as well. Never more than one a day for me.

No problems digesting sugar for me. And I still love my chocolate...I think it's just the one habit I'm finding it most difficult to break. I can actually control how much I eat now...and just have three or four Hershey kisses and be happy. The trouble happens when I'm tired or distracted and don't pay attention to what I'm doing. But if I count them out, and go directly to FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and log them on my food log for the day, I am able to stop there. Not that I'm encouraging anyone else to try this. Only you know if you are OCD enough to stop after three Hershey kisses. Most days I am, but not always. The important thing is to get right back on the horse if you screw up. It might be easier to just think of sugar and chocolate as a drug, and avoid it altogether. If you can do that, you're a stronger person than I.
    Diane

I’m sorry you and sugar are not getting along right now. It may be a phase or for good. I however don’t have any problem with any food (which I thought was strange at first).

I eat sugar (candy) in moderation just as we should. I get the snack/fun size or the Hersey kiss or two then im done.

I have not grown out of the eating when bored thing as of yet so my co workers and I eat Barcelona sunflower seeds. These have the least sodium compared to Daves and Frito-Lays..

    So Enjoy
