    Default 1 week out

So today has been the first day I have felt like getting back on here. I am 1 week out tomorrow. I was very lucky - hardly had any pain, and I mean like other than shoulder pain after the first few hours I had pretty much no gas pain. I did have a hernia repair that is giving me some swallowing issues. I have been using Miralax and being sure to get in a fruit at least twice a day. I had a bm my 2 morning after - which I know I am very lucky to do - but I have IBS so this might contribute a bit to that. My PCP has already taken me off my BP meds - with monitoring being done at home. No nausea or vomiting - but I am very gassy both belchy and you know. Is this something the rest of you went through as well?? I am taking Omeprazole for 90 days and I'm not having any GERD/Heartburn issues. I am thinking about adding a GasX strip and will call my Doc before I do so but wanted to see what everyone on here had to say.

but overall so far so good!!

    Things that are weird:
seeing 2 ounces of food and thinking OMG will i be able to finish that - sometimes nope and that's ok!
Bananas make me sick - will try again in about a week

Congrats on having a pretty smooth surgery and recovery! I am surprised that you are already cleared to eat foods. I was on liquids for 2 weeks (but I could only handle 10 days) and then soft/pureed foods for 2 weeks before I was allowed to eat solids. Although, I have seen so many different pre and post op diets. The norm is generally liquids for a least a week, though. Best wishes to you.

Congratulations on your surgery. Glad to hear your doing well and even off B/P meds already I too was curious about your diet too. I was only allowed clear liquids first wk, 2nd wk add protein shake & full liq, 3rd add cream soup, 5th wk purée/soft food. I had to stay on this through wk 7 because i had trouble tolerating reg. food. Are you getting in any walking? All the best with your journey.

I have a pretty awesome postOp diet Days 1-15 I'm on protein shakes and full liquids - this includes no more than 2 oz of unflavored oatmeal, re fried beans, cottage cheese, strained creamed soups, baby food stage 1 fruits and meats, unsweetened applesauce and clear liquids.
Then days 16-29 I advance to pureed foods and scrambled eggs at 2-3 oz.
Days 30-59 is 3 oz and a soft diet that incorporates lean protein, pasta, cooked veggies.
then regular diet at day 60 with 4 oz per meal.
I supplement with protein shakes until i am getting enough w/o the shakes and of course vitamins - I am to have 70-90g of protein/day and 48-60 oz water/day.

right now i am having issues getting my protein in - my shakes gross LOL i bought some ISOPure water and that is helping a ton - i'm avg about 25g right now but i have spoken with my doc and they aren't worried as long as i increase over the next couple weeks. I think once i can start swallowing more i will be able to get more protein in. regular food isn't bothering me. I got some gasx chews and it was like heaven LOL - such instant relief.

hope everyone is having a great Hump Day

I don’t think any of us in the first month got all there protein in. The foods your describing is not full liquids however they fall under soft or puréed. My doc didn’t want me using gas x after 48hrs. Hopefully your doc is ok with it. Best of luck and hope you ck in down the road and let us know how your doing : )
