    Default hello everybody

Happy to be here with all of you.Thank you for accepted me!I've been sleeved 3 weeks ago(24/02/17)at Homerton Hospital in London.I live in Dagenham Essex and i will be glad if i can meet people from the same area which has been sleeved. My concern is that i started eat solid foods from the third week after the surgery and i am worried if i might overstreched my stomach because i can eat larger portions already.Of course it takes 45min to finish a main course but for example,i am able to eat 3 scrambled eggs,a slice of light cheese,a slice of wholemeal bread(toast)and a small tin of weight watchers tuna in tomato sauce. All of this i eat once. What do you think?Thank you all for your patience!

    Hello Madalina,
    Welcome to the forum!
I must say I'm a little surprised by your post, I'm 14 months out and can't even eat 3 eggs so far. In good days I can finish two small eggs but usually eat only one.
The quantity you describe does seem a lot at your stage.
Until month 5/6 I was allowed to eat only 1/2 cup per sitting (not eating longer than 30 mns).
The first month is really crucial for the stomach because it's the healing period and you need to be careful with quantities. The issue here is not really stretching your stomach but avoid a leak at all costs.
What does your guidelines say about quantities?
but the real question is why do you need to eat that much? are you hungry?
If you are feeling hungry at that stage, it could be stomach acid (reflux). Many people take a PPI the first month post-op. stomach acid does mimic hunger.
    Take care

I am 19 weeks out and I don't think I could eat that much now. Definitely talk with your surgeon as that does seem like a lot for your phase. And Sandra gave you some good advice as well. Good luck!

Welcome and I will back up what most are saying that the amount you can eat in a sitting is a bit much. I have a couple questions for you.

    1) When you are able to eat such a large amount how do you feel after and for the rest of that day?

    2) Before eating that big of a meal what have you had previously throughout the day?

I have a feeling you may not be eating enough small meals and instead having a larger one to compensate for it. If thats the case I would suggest to eating more often just in smaller quantities. Best of luck to you on your journey.

PPI means proton-pump inhibitor ... which refers to the way the drugs act. They reduce your production of stomach acid which helps you avoid acid reflux and other complications.

My surgeon has us on one for the first year.

Amanda already answered but I will give a little more details.
My surgeon gives PPI to all his patients post-sleeve. It's important especially the first month because during that time your stomach is healing and it will help to have less acid in the stomach during that specific time. Some people will have reflux post-sleeve, some won't. It's impossible to predict who will get it or not even based on reflux pre-sleeve. One of the symptom of acid reflux is hunger.
I did have a light reflux pre-sleeve, and had to take my PPI almost one year post-op. I wanted to stop early on but it was impossible. I lowered my dosage around month 6 and finally stopped a few weeks ago. It's complicated to stop a PPI because for a few days you will have the worth reflux ever. But at some point it will get better. So during that time it's important to watch the diet carefully, avoid any trigger.
Other people switch for H2 (histamine 2 blocker) after taking a PPI but because of all the side effects I wanted to stay clear of those as well, so I manage right now with Tums.
