Unhappy Sleeved 2/28 and NOT sure how I feel about it!

Well, I did it! I was sleeved on 2/28/17 and am now recovering from surgery. As of today, I'm undecided as to how I feel about it but happy that I did it and praying that it gets better. Reading all the posts in this forum, as well as other pages, I know it gets better but still trying to figure this sleeve out. Currently on an all liquid diet (no protein the first week) and start protein next week. I just don't know yet...that's all. LOL!

Congratulations on your surgery. I know in that beginning I had mixed feelings about the surgery also. I wonder why I did it at al. I have had a few struggles since then. One being couldn't hold anything down and the other becoming dehydrated. You just have to power through it. Will be tough at first but with support from family, friends and this community of people you can do it.

I didn't have mixed feelings the first week, all my feelings were BAD! I thought I must be a complete idiot to do this to myself, but now 4 months out, I am so happy I did! I have been lucky to not have any complications, except a bad case of constipation within the first 2 weeks....sip, sip, sip! I am eating practically anything I want--I stay away completely from simple carbs. The amounts are small, but they're all I need at this point. Good luck!

I saw Dr Doyle on Wednesday for my six month follow. She is always such a nice person but so conscientious and good at her job.

Hang in there next week gets better and three weeks when you go to soft foods is just so much better.

Mixed feelings are common. Especially because you don't feel good and it's not like you're seeing instant results. As you start feeling better and weight starts coming off I'm sure you'll feel differently! Greatest gift I've ever given myself!

Have a hard time relating to your post. Only time I questioned the surgery was when I woke up in recovery vomiting my guts out for first hour or two. But when the nurses got that stopped I felt like I was going to live. Followed postop instructions exactly and been doing pretty good. My diet sounds like yours, only clear liquids for first week. What to share Motivational News that hopefully will help you feel better about your decision. I had surgery just five weeks ago. Pants I wore down to Mexico were a size 24 today I put on size 16. The changes have been so exciting. Since we have restrictions on physical activity I started walking at least 7 miles a day 6days a week. Started that week two. Week one I walked just smaller, frequent intervals. This week I added elliptical and bike plus my track laps. Weather to unpleasant to walk outdoors. Hang in there. Go look at people's before and after pics. If that doesn't make you happy you did this. Also The you tube show "Ask Dr Alvarez " is a good one to watch, he had a lot of good information. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

The beginning is a bunch of weird feelings. It was hard on me and I think on my family. I didn't sit with them to eat dinner (and this is a huge thing in my house) until I was through the liquid and the soft food stage (about a month). I felt left out I guess. But I also didn't want to just sit there with a cup of broth watching them eat.

I think so much of this journey is emotional.

Im Pre-op and was wondering exactly what feelings or regrets you had? As a 40 year old woman Im not sure to expect on the emotion side. Right now Im hoping/expecting the results will far outweigh the negative.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to the soft foods. Today I was so weak that I grabbed a protein shake, it helped a lot. Of course, I wasn't able to drink an entire one but it did help, I needed calories.

No regrets yet, just trying to figure it out. I know that it is a process so I just don't know how i feel about it yet. I'm just ready to feel normal again, if that makes sense. LOL!

Sounds to me you went into the surgery not knowing exactly what would be happening after the surgery was done. If that's the case either you didn't ask enough questions to your surgeon or to your nutritionist. I read on different forums different post-op week 1 plans to follow for me day one was ice chips only and water. Day 2 started the protein shakes, broths and jello. which was for the next week. I am always amazed at post op plans that don't include any protein until week 2 as protein is a major contributor to feeling full and retaining muscle mass.

    1 month out- 262
    2 month out- 244

    4 month out- 215
    5 month out- 203
    6 month out- 195

Thanks for your response, however, I knew what was to be expected and asked and continue to ask lots of questions but it's very similar to childbirth or rearing. You can read all the books out there and attend childbirth/parenting classes and trust me, you don't get it until you go through it. I've read enough posts and and been a part of a number of FB groups, forums and support groups to know that EVERY surgeon has different requirements and that everyone will think that their surgeon knows best. At the end of the day, everyone reacts to surgery differently and deals w/it in their own way and it's not as open and shut as some folks say (as you can see from some of the responses I received a lot of folks felt the same way). My post was nothing more than me posting MY experience thus far. As I stated earlier, it's getting better but still not sure how i feel about it yet. That's all. On a more positive note, you are doing an amazing job w/your weight loss thus far. Keep up the good work
