Hello everyone! This is my first post with this group. My surgery is coming up soon. It's the day before my 64 birthday - Oct. 3. My grown children are not happy that I am doing this. I know I am getting up there in age, but I still think I can benefit from this. I don't really have the support that I would like, so I hope you guys can chime in and reassure me. Thank you!!

Welcome, I'm new on here too, I only joined a couple of days ago. The support on here is great so far and there is a lot of helpful information too to help with the journey. I'm sure you'll get plenty of support on here. I wish you all the best on 3rd October. You have to do what is right for you. Hopefully once you start transforming your life, your kids will see what a great thing this surgery is.

This is hands down the best decision I ever made for me and my health. My ONLY regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I'm 64 years young and feeling younger every day!

You've come to by far the best site for support, no-nonsense suggestions, knowledge, wisdom and experience.

Welcome and congrats on the upcoming surgery! I have read lots of posts from people that their families and friends did not agree with the decision. I prepare myself with lots of knowledge so you can address their concerns because their disagreement is usually due to a concern. This usually comes from some misunderstanding of the procedure and what it actually does.

You are so worth what you are planning. I am more than sure you have been unhappy for a while over 'things' about yourself, whether it is your health or looks. It doesn't really matter. Just knowing that this is important to you is enough. I, too, am doing this in December. Scared but excited. I am 51. Let's do this together ok?

Thanks Connie4. I am very happy about my decision. Scared a little but positive it is the right thing. I guess like most people, I am nervous a little about the surgery and first couple days. lol. We shall see. How was your experience during the surgery and first day or two?

Thanks for all the support. It's really refreshing to find others that are about to embark on this journey or have experienced it! I'd be less than honest if I didn't say I was afraid. My children and siblings are telling me I need to back out, hence the fear. I try to explain that the risks are so minimal. One of my sisters asked if I was really that vain. I explained that vanity had nothing to do with it, that I am wanting to be healthy, feel good, and do the things I used to. It's a healthy choice! But thank you all for responding, as I will probably look to this group for a little support.

I thought the worse was gonna happen and to my delight I flew it with flying colors.

WE can never make everyone happy and I have been a people pleaser for way too long.
Step up to that plate and do what u decide to do.
I think your family is in fear you will change, your darn right you will.. but for the good, for you!
They will come around.
If not they are selfish.
You can and will do this just like we all do one day at a time...we will be your family.. no worries

although some of post op recovery is not in your control...MUCH IS. Learn all you can and make the best recovery you can for yourself.
Month 3.5 and I regret not doing this sooner.

Many on here will tell you it's never too late!

Family may come around when they see you regaining health or as you inform them of reality and not their myths and assumptions.

My Mother was a little reluctant at first to be happy for me but she's slowly come around. She's Italian so she's completely worried that I don't eat enough pasta now!!!
