    Exclamation 1 day post op

1 day post op, I'm home, hit a few snags along the way but all in all as good as to be expected. I will write another longer post about my surgery and recovery when I'm feeling more up to it.

Having pain, gas cramps, and just really uncomfortable. I'm taking regular tylenol, Tramadol and Ondanestron for nausea. Please tell me this gets better soon??

I'm sorry you're not feeling good.

Hopefully the worst is over and you'll feel a little better each day. You can do this!

Hang in there! Of course I have not had my surgery yet, but yes, everyone here says it gets better. The first few days post op generally seem to be the most difficult. xo

Woot Woot!!! Happy to hear. All your ailments seem to be par for the course so without having "been there", you're certainly where everyone gets to.

All is normal. You should start feeling better about day 2 or 3. Walking is the best thing for the gas. That gas is fierce but it does start to ease up softer day 1. Keep us posted. Your doing great

Tramadol wouldn't seem to do much for post-gastric pain, you might tell your doctor that. He'd probably prescribe some Tylenol with codeine.

Update: still having issues with nausea - throwing up and dry heaving sometimes. Can't keep plain water down, helps to have crystal light flavoring in it but still struggling to get an significant amounts of liquids in. Pain is minimal and managable but I could t even finish one 20gm protein packed mixed with water. Getting nervous.

Going to Doctor tomorrow to get my med pump thing out, hopefully il get to ask about all of this.

Anyone have any similar experiences or advice?? Desperate here

Were you prescribed zofran or something similar for nausea?

Let us know what your doc says tomorrow when you get a chance and if you feel like posting or updating.

I was vomiting non stop for three days after the surgery, I was expecting it since I always have issues with anesthesia. I received lot's of shots (nausea medication) but couldn't drink water either. I was still on an IV for fluids. Finally the surgeon said to try juice mixed with water, that my body would keep it because of the sugar. I stopped vomiting that day. But it took a long time before I could drink only water, (around 2 months) and it had to be iced cold. I was drinking herbal tea for several weeks.
I was in hospital one extra day than initially planned because of the excessive vomiting, my surgeon didn't want me to go back home since I needed an Iv until I stopped vomiting.
First weeks are difficult for some of us, but it will get better! Hang in there! ask you surgeon what to do to avoid dehydration. Good luck and take care!

the first few days will be very uncomfortable because of gas and the swelling. i took the same nausea medicine and it worked wonders. I had a very rough time. I had to use my grams walker to get onto the toilet lol. after about 4 days, i was able to actually get dressed myself. it is all worth it! just remember that.

Thank you all for your concern and support, doc said some people just have a rougher time than others and that it will get better each day. I'm still very uncomfortable, got a full 20oz of protein in today but just barely. Got some no sugar added apple juice and white grape juice as well and that goes down ok to help get some calories and natural sugar in to avoid the low blood sugar. Still in pain and taking tylenol and tramadol and anti-nausea meds consistently and sleeping a lot (because of the meds). I'm worried I'm sleeping too much and not walking enough but I still need the meds and they knock me right out. Just hoping the doc is right and everyday will get better.

I've never had surgery prior to this so I guess I thought it would be easier than it is, boy was I wrong. I'm definitely ready to be feeling closer to normal now!!
