    Default Just beginning the journey

Hi everyone. This is the first time I'm posting so excuse my lack of knowledge on all the abbreviations. I am just starting out. I'm going to a seminar on Wednesday held by Fairfield Bariatrics. I live in Stamford, CT. I'm hoping and praying I can get insurance to cover my sleeve surgery. I have a BMI of 37 with severe sleep apnea. I also have severe depression because of my weight so I REALLY need this surgery to help my mentally and physically. Anyone have similar issues and had their surgery covered by insurance? Also, anyone use Dr. Floch from Norwalk, CT? Any support and feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Welcome!

I can't speak to your specific issues.

I can speak to other co-morbidity issues...

I'm an insulin dependent diabetic 40+ years and since surgery do not need insulin. I know (via my Drs) this may change due to genetics. I'm enjoying being needle free for now! I'm down to 1 HBP medication. I was taking 3!

Thanks to a great therapist and surgery I enjoy life again!

This is hands down the best decision I ever made for me and my health.

Best of luck as you embark on your journey!

Dont be too quick to blame your depression on being overweight.

What if it's the other way around? You became overweight because of depression? Make sure you have that clear, because, as they say, the surgery operates on your stomach not your head.

its possible that you could still be depressed after losing weight, just be prepared for that scenario.

Hi everyone. I've finally gotten the money together to do self pay for gastric sleeve. I am just about finishing up with my appointments to get cleared and hoping to have surgery in January or February. It can't come soon enough. I just want to feel healthier and happier. My father is taking all of us to Aruba next November for Thanksgiving and I'm hoping I can fit into a bathing suit by then. I have so many emotions running through me right now but any words of support would greatly be appreciated.

Hello Alycat, I was wondering which Floch brother you used. I am having my surgery done by Craig. I do not have a date yet but just finished my 6 months of appointment to clear me for surgery. Once I get insurance approval I will get a date. Hopefully June.

How are you feeling since your surgery?

Hey Alycat! Reach out to your insurance and find out what the requirements are. Mine were clearly spelled out and based on that I knew I would get approved. Also, my surgeon's office advertised that they were "expert insurance negotiators" because they have so much experience with going through insurance. They called my insurance right away and wrote down all the requirements for me. For example, I could not fall below a 40 BMI because none of my comorbidities qualified me. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. If they know the rules, they will make sure you qualify.
