Angry Feeling irritated * cant eat anything*

oK So I am not sure what the deal is with me.... I dont even know if it is me !

Ok so i tried eating soup and I cant every time I eat soup it makes me gag like to me it is disgusting and before the surgery I loved SOUP!

I cant eat broccoli or cauliflower because after I swallow it feels like its coming back up and it hurts and i have to burp or almost throw up

I tried eating Chili and sure the first small little bowl i was fine but then when i went to have it again the for dinner or the next day i could only eat 2 spoons before it became nasty to me

And now.... SWEET POTATOES. I boiled my sweet potato to where it was super soft and i ate it and chew it down and guess what after 2 small bites it feels like its coming back up and hurts a little and i couldnt eat anymore!

This is my 3rd week and she said since last wed that I could eat soft foods and she said sweet potato, chili, soup, cottage cheese ( another one i cant stand to eat)

I really dont know what to do! i am seriously stuck in protein shake and yogurt ( some not all bc of the same disgusting taste)

    Is this normal?

    Thank you

It is still early days for you! I was sleeved 10 days earlier than you and still have issues when attempting to eat food not recommended by my surgeon. I know it is annoying watching the world gorge on food you once loved while you can barely eat anything! Just take it slow and stay with the soft foods for awhile..it may take you two months before you can take on the next stage

    Heighest weight 253 pounds 3/2/2016
    Pre-op weight 244 pounds 3/6/2016
    1 week after surgery 238 pounds 3/13/16
    1 month post-op 227 pounds 4/6/16 lost 26 pounds
    2 month post-op 218 pounds 5/6/16 lost 9 pounds total of 35!
    3 month post-op 204 pounds 6/6/16 lost 14 pounds total of 49!
    4 month post-op 197 pounds 7/6/16 lost 8 pounds total of 56!

    Thank you!

My thing is I am eating food that the dietitian said it is ok to eat. She gave me a sheet and she went over it and she said all soft vegetables with no seed. Make sure you chew it really well even tho it is soft. She said i can eat smashed down sweet potato and she also said what i couldnt eat.

But i hear that i shouldn't eat what is on her list.... are they wrong.... is my surgeon wrong? Now i am so confused because I am eating what they said it is ok to eat and chew it really well but alot of people saying that it is to early for that.

And it is not the fact it hurts on some foods but also they are disgusting to me... so food i used to love like soup are disgusting to me and i can no longer eat it

I am not sure if I am making sense or not sorry.... I am just confused

Each doctor is different. I wasn't allowed to start soft food until the 4th week post. Veggies I stayed away from for a while because they didn't sit well with me. They say our taste buds can change after being sleeved. Just take your time eating, eat soft and chew chew chew. For the first few months my main foods were scrambled eggs, yogurt, cheese.....pretty much the same thing every day because nothing was really appetizing. It gets easier.

I think every single surgeon/bariatric group has their own unique set of recommendations - and that's for everything related to the surgery, like whether or not you go on a pre-op diet, what kind of pre-op diet (liquid or solid, and what kind of liquid!), and how long. The same is true for their post-op nutritional plans. For every person who has had a surgery, there is a different plan their doctors recommended. When I was doing all my research to select a surgeon, I even noticed that some surgeons will recommend specific pre-op and post-op supplements (vitamins and protein powders) brands. I think some of their specific recommendations have more to do with them being in 'bed' with the supplement providers
What is the same across the board though, is that post-surgery, you need to give your healing stomach time to re-adjust to foods - the focus is your protein, your water and your vits.
Some people progress fast through the 'stages', others end up prolonging each stage because they're not ready to move on to the next one, even if the doctor said they should be ready - they might not be! My plan was clear liquids stage for 5 days after surgery - full liquids stage for 14 days after that - then puree foods stage for 10 days after that, then soft foods stage for 11 days after that. But I ended up spending more time on puree foods because each time I tried to introduce soft foods, I had the same kinds of issues you described - I kept trying, until one day, I didn't have issues anymore!
So yes, take your doc's advice and recommendations - but only you can know if you're ready to try the next phase. All you can do is keep trying, slowly. It will all become possible and better as you go along, but be patient - give you new tiny stomach a chance to adjust!

I'm like Aydensmomma, scrambled eggs, cheese, applesause. 21 days out so far and I have noticed my taste buds are strange now too. I always have this funny, metallic like taste in my mouth. I'm constantly brushing my teeth (go figure) to get it out. But, I'm taking my time with food progression. Everybody is different.

It's like our stomach has a mind of it's own...been there....still there actually. My surgeon says it's because of the hormonal changes, because our stomach produce other hormones, not just ghrelin. Be patient, it's temporary!
I couldn't stand bell peppers, now I can. Still a big no no for cruciferous like I said previously but how well, it was not my favorite's anyway.....My nut did give me a schedule too, but I decided to delay it from one week, because it was too early to go from full liquid to soft food for me. First I tried was not good, one week later I was fine. My surgeon approved and said to listen to my body...good luck and take care.

Your stomach obviously isn't on your nut's schedule. I was on liquids for 3 weeks. And even when I was "allowed" pureed food I only ate 2-3 spoonful/day. Soft foods "allowed" at 5 weeks but I was still on an enhanced liquid diet with some thicker pureed stuff at that point.

It was 6-7 weeks before I ever tried anything as solid as veggies or chili. So just because your nut says its OK, you're better off listening to your own body. Don't rush things, stay on liquids or purees as long as you need to to give your sleeve as much time as it needs to heal. If it doesn't taste good or stay down, then go back to what works and try it again in a couple weeks.

I think that you should hurry up and slow Down. I'm almost three months out and still eating two or three table spoons of most. I stick to cheese , soup and cottage cheese , and eggs . It's slow going I can't tolerate water or protein shakes. Stop stressing your self out .take it slow and good luck to ya .

At three months out, I'm still unable to eat certain things that I loved before surgery. Sometimes the smell has me wretching (sp?).
So I'm taking it slowly, paying attention to my body. This week I tried spaghetti squash again and it's a go for me. Otherwise I stick with low sodium broth, eggs, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, fruit, and protein shakes. And of course water.
It gets better, One Day at A Time!

Have you tried to eat refried beans? That was a staple during my pureed foods stage. It was something I could keep down, but was only able to eat a few spoon fulls. I liked scrambled eggs before sleeve, can't stand them even now. Also, I could drink any flavor of protein shakes before sleeve, now can only tolerate the chocolate premier protein. IDK, stomach is a cranky bitch now and I just do what she says Hopefully you will find some things you like and can keep down. Keep trying! It will get better.
