Hello,

My name is Aria. I like almost everyone else have been struggling with weight loss. I have lost a lot of weight on my own, but I was not able to maintain it. My family, friends and loved ones are not comfortable with the fact that I am going to Mexico to have this procedure done. I had gone through the process here in Orlando, but after 6 months of documented attempts at weight loss, psych eval and a nutritionist, I was told that Humana does cover the procedure, but my employer opted out of bariatric surgery coverage. I am going to Mexico with positive thoughts and praying that God guide me and those who are to care for me. The surgery is all paid for. The flight is booked, passport on its way. I am ready for my inside to match my outside. I wish everyone well on their journey.

Aria hi my name is Corina I also am having my surgery in March, My Doctor is DR. Velazquez. I have only told 2 of my children and my husband and 1 brother. I am worried they will give me a hard time about Mexico. My LARGE EXTENDED family will find out when I come back. I haven't talked to anyone that had Dr. Velazquez yet have you? I hope everything goes well. I will be having surgery on March 14 I AM SO EXCITED!

Employers in the US who provide insurance for their employees purchase it from insurance companies and depending on if they are self-funded or fully-insured and if there is a federal law (all funding types), state law (fully-insured plans) or extraterritorial (fully-insured if I remember right) , they can buy or not buy whatever they wish. As far as I know there is no legislation regarding weight loss surgery.

While I wish my insurance company (really my employer because that's who decides if something is covered or not) covered WLS, I can imagine how the price of my insurance would sky-rocket if it became a federally mandated service.

Hey there!! I am in Southern California and I went to Tijuana to get my surgery, fortunately for me that's just a a few minutes drive away. I also chose not to tell my family about it. A friend drove me to the hospital and back. I got homesick, I was in pain and really wanted my husband to comfort me but when I told him the truth he was mad and indifferent to my pain. But I guess I deserved it. He is slowy warming up to me again.
It's hard though, not everyone will understand our reason behind our decision.
But hey, it is ultimately our body and our chance at a better and healthier life!
You'll be fine in Mexico, just focus on your goals and be strong!!

Just from my own experience ,I wish I would have got my gallbladder and my hiatal hernia checked here in the states before I went to Mexico it would have saved me lots of pain and still suffering .
