    Default Scale Battles...

I lost 25 pounds in my pre-op liquid diet. Sleeved on 11/9. I am carefully following all dietary guidelines and somehow have only lost 12 pounds post-op. I have lost some inches, and I know everyone loses differently. But what in the WORLD?!?! I'm starting to feel like the one person this might not work for.

Stop "battling" with an inanimate object, (the scale) and focus on your behavior. Give the scale to a friend to hold for a month if need be. Get the amount of protein your doc told you, (mine said 85 for women 95 for men). Take your supplements. Work towards the calories you were told, (mine said at least 1000 per day while losing), advance you diet as directed and move more. It. Will. Come!

Don't worry about hurting my feelings because I guarantee you not one bit of my self esteem is tied up in your acceptance.

My surgery was 11/16 and I started at 230 pounds. I lost ten pounds the week before on the liquid diet and the another ten pounds the two weeks after. Then for eight days nothing!! Then just yesterday the scale started moving again...don't panic, your body is trying to adjust.

Here is my advice. Put the scale away. You are in the early stages of this journey. Your body is constantly adjusting levels. You may or may not have hit your 3 week stall. It happens to a lot of us. Get your protein, water, vitamins, and exercise ie walking everyday. Once a week get on the scale. You will succeed. Enjoy your new life!!!!

You ONLY lost 12 pounds in a month? Do you know how silly that sounds? Keep doing what you're doing and you'll be fine.

The only time you should be weighing yourself is at the doctor's office. Then, voice your concerns to the staff. STAY OFF the scale for now, that's my tough love for today.

It's already been said but it can't be said enough.... STAY. OFF. THE. SCALE. I don't even own a scale, I only weighed at the doctors office and I still managed to lose over 100% of my excess weight.

Yep. Prior to being sleeved, I never would have been able to lose 12 pounds in one month even after vigorous exercise and calorie counting. The fact that you lost 12 pounds in four weeks is amazing. Many other sleeved people had 'slower' starts and didn't even lose 12 pounds their first months.

As others suggested, put the scale away. Focus on how your clothing is becoming more loose. Focus on how you're feeling. Personally, I only weigh myself once a month because doing it more often results in anxiety for me.

I agree with everyone else. I only weigh myself once a month currently. When I'm around 6 months post op, I'll probably start weighing myself twice a month to keep better track of my weight loss and to see what works-what doesn't work. The scale isn't your friend. Exercise, water, and protein is. Keep up the good work!

    Weight Loss:
6 Month Requirement with Nut = 41 pounds
    1st mo = 19 pds
    2nd mo = 19 pds
    3rd mo = 9 pds
    4th mo = 16 pds
    5th mo = 11 pds
    6th mo = 9 pds
    7th mo = 4 pds
8th mo = 1 pd (bad food choices)
    9th mo = 4 pds
    10th mo = 3 pds
    11th mo = 3 pds
    12th mo = 4 pds
    13th Mo = 3 pds

Three weeks out, stalling is normal. If I calculate calories, I'm well under 1,000. Until I start eating more food, my body will think that I am starving, and it won't let go as readily. Next week, when actual food is added in larger amounts and in greater variety, I'm imagining that I will hit that 1,000 calorie mark more easily.

Stalls are normal. They are disappointing, but they are normal. Make sure you're following your protocol. If you are, then you will eventually see it reflected on the scale. In the meantime, focus on your non-scale victories. Do NOT cut back on calories unless you are eating stuff you shouldn't be. I'm still struggling to get everything in. I never thought it would be a chore to eat There is an NSV for you!
