I agree about doing research on lap bands and the complications that might arise from them. I actually initially went for a lap band, but after speaking to the bariatric surgeon and doing some research; decided on the sleeve and have never been sorry. I know many people who have had revisions due to complications from the band. Good luck choosing a surgery!
I also chose the sleeve after doing my research. When doing your research look at things like absorption of vitamins, long term medical care required, etc. We are each so different. I am very happy with my sleeve. I am a slower loser but have lost 1/2 of the weight I needed to lose in less than 5 months. I liked the fact that nothing needed to be re-routed and because I have a sensitive immune system (lots of allergies) I didn't want anything foreign to stay in my body after the surgery. Once you have all of the data and really compare the different surgeries you can make the best decision for you.
I agree with doing more research while I was in Mexico getting my sleeve, there were at least 4 people getting a lap and removal converted to gastric sleeve. I woukd hate to go through more than I had to
Please take it from me Just say NO to the lapband. I had the lapband. The first 3 years I didn't lose much weight then all of a sudden I was losing like crazy. Losing weight, hair my teeth got awful. Want to know why? Cause I threw up on average about 5-10 times daily. I could not even drink anything. At the time it went bad my family was going through so many changes with company etc so we was down a income and had no insurance. Long story I went like that for another year totally dehydrated sick etc. One day I passed out hubby took me to er (still no insurance at the time) but the surgeon said it was the lapband it had slipped started erosion and had to come out immediately. Well within minutes I was in OR having it removed. Now forward 2 years I have gained the weight back did tons of research and decided to go for the sleeve. The band might be cheaper but not much cheaper and think it is a foreign object in your body that your body might reject. Also it might slip and eventually erode and eventually most have to come out. Also you have to continue to have what they call "fills" done and if you have surgery in Mexico you have to find a dr that does fills in the us and back 6 years ago that alone cost me about 100 a visit. Sorry such a long post just really research. And good luck in whatever your decision is.
I had the lap band for six years. Initially lost 50 lbs but struggled to lose any more. Restriction was temperamental. Had times could not even drink water. Found out band had slipped. Had it removed about one and half years ago. Goin to have the sleeve done June 10th. Very excited after researching and meeting so many people who have been successful with it!
