Now that I am 16 months post op I can barely remember the bad parts of the surgery. You all will survive and you will feel better every day. I know it is hard to look to far ahead, but believe me if you are anything like me you will have no regrets. I am 66 years old and can actually run upstairs. I am super happy love the way I look and feel. It is all worth the pain (which I had very little) and adjusting to my new eating and lifestyle change.

Bernadine, it will get better. Have positive thoughts and know you can get through it.

The leak test was merely an xray. You stand up and swallow a liquid and the doctor watches it go down. My esophagus would fill up then everything would stop and slowly trickle into my stomach. Hurt like heck just because swallowing hurts. I guess if there was a leak he would have seen it. Swallowing still hurts the same today! Getting a little worried...drank about 6 ounces today so far.

I to have had numerous surgeries. This was by far the easiest. I was sore around the port holes for about the first month, but that felt like nothing more than a cramp in the side. Most difficult thing was learning when i was full - one bite too many and up it comes.
Honk if you want to see my finger !!

I had an easy time of it so far. The first few days it took a lot of work to get my fluids in. No problems with pain or nausea but my anesthesia personnel and surgeon stayed on top of both. I was dismissed on day two and have just sailed along since the surgery. The hardest part for me so far is the mental adjustments that I'm having to make. It's still hard for me to grasp that 6oz of food and I'm full. I just spent so many years being a big portion kind of guy that it just mentally seems weird. But I don't over eat so I am getting a handle on it.
This is going to be quite an adventure

The worst part was everything that happened in my life following the surgery.
I lost weight, started to feel better both physically and mentally, I am adding quality years to my life, had more NSVs than you can shake a stick at, my self-esteem improved, I have more energy and stamina, my BP is no longer high, my cholesterol is normal, I am no longer type 2 diabetic, my sleep apnea improved, etc.

Sorry if I scared you..... the leak test is over VERY quickly. I had an easy recovery with no complications, little pain, etc. so that was my personal "worst part". It is just a few minutes and the "best parts" of being sleeved are too many to list. Good luck to you

Worst parts for me... pre op diet. OMG. I was starving... and had such a drive to eat 24/7. My preop dieat was a breeze compared to many on this forum - it was just 2 weeks of eating low carb - my surgeon was not trying to prove anything, just shrink the liver.

Also, immediately after awakening from surgery I felt pretty bad. I knew I had effects from anesthesia so was hit with all the drugs to control naseaua but it was an unpleasant hour or two.

I have to honestly admit, I didn't feel quite "human" for probably the first 8-12 weeks post op. That is a bit statement and not everybody feels that way.

However... who cares! OMG, i went from super morbidly obese to a pretty hot looking middle age woman..wooo hoo... thank you sleeve! I would do it 10...100... I don't know, many more times. It was SO WORTH IT!

Worst for me was the post op nausea. I have had many surgeries, & severe nausea after nearly all them (even with just heavy sedation instead of a general anesthesia). The sleeve was no exception. It was hard to keep anything down. I tried to comply with the instruction to walk - but it was embarrassing walking around the hotel with my barf pan. Yup it was that bad. So for the most part I walked a whole lot in my hotel room - wore a track in the carpet just about! When I had a window of feeling less gross I would high tail to the gift shop to buy peach nectar. It was the only thing I could keep down, felt like it had saved my life when I discovered it.

The worst part was the constipation. I was terrified that if I strained too much that I would either make my incisions pop open or worse cause a leak. I still have issues with not being regular like I was before the surgery, but I know it is from the high calcium intake and because I just don't have as much food going in as did pre surgery. I still would not have changed anything. So glad I did this. Pain wasn't bad at all. About 5 days after surgery I was cleaning out cabinets and drawers and closets. I had so much energy. I love that I can now eat like I have always considered normal. I feel normal, and I never felt that way most of life, including when I was teenager. That was a long time ago because I am 60 now.
