    Default I felt McSick

I dropped my daughter off at college after spring break. I had a couple of hours of driving ahead of me to drive home, was hungry and a had a "jones" on for a fast food burger and fries -I almost ate no fast food since being sleeved last year.

I stopped by a fast food place and ordered off the "dollar menu" -a small burger, value fries and value drink (small=16oz!!!).
I took the bottom half of the bun off the burger, ate the burger and most of the top of the bun, less than half the French fries and brought the drink with me to have on the road (a diet soda), which I started to drink about 30 minutes later and threw out the rest.

My banana shaped stomach must have contorted itself in the shape of a "one-finger salute", because I felt McSick. I should have ordered a "Happy Meal", besides the plastic toy having more nutrition, I almost needed a barf bag and would have had one handy.

I definitely wasn't "McLoving" this experience.

Next time I go to a place like this, if they ask me "would you like fries with that", I'll say "No, but I'll take a side of Rolaids, please.".

No wonder why that friggin' clown is laughing. I don't think his name is Ronald McDonald, I think it is John Wayne Gacy.

As a side note, I was embarrassed to realize what I was able to eat before. I think I spilled more food on myself in the past than I just ate now.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but they can usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I always LOVED McDonalds...worked there in high school. I stopped by one Friday night for a big treat...I ate 1/2 cheeseburger and it just wasn't the same...now when I want a treat (occaisional) I go to Wendy's much better.

I am so happy for you. What a blessing that you can start associating that with fast food instead of daydreaming about fast food. I can only hope one day I can join your club!

I'm sorry that you felt "yucky". Honestly I have been to McDonalds but I order the Fruit Yogurt Parfait. We have been doing a lot of traveling lately and my youngest son loves McD's. It is amazing when we realize that the food that we used to love, just isn't that great anymore. I do LOVE their diet sweet tea though.

Scott, long time no talk to my friend! Me and you must have been on the same page because I had a craving for the golden arches last weekend myself. I too, ordered off the dollar menu and was only able to get 2 bites of burger and 2 bites of fries and I was done. It was sad and I was disappointed. Not that I ate it but that what a waste of money. Even a few months out, I still cant wrap my head around my portion size before surgery compared to after surgery. You know how crazy I sound in my head when I pull up to to a drive thru and order ONE taco instead of a super sized combo for a meal? Would you like that in a combo they ask? NO! Would you like a drink with that they ask? NO! Just one taco and Im good to go. Thanks for sharing your story and reminding me yet again that Im not alone in all this madness!

I had kind of a similar experience with McD's last week. I was running late one morning and didn't pack my breakfast and I knew lunch was going to be late. I went thru a Mickey D's drive-thru and ordered an Egg McMuffin and some water. I used to love Egg McMuffins and I figured it wasn't the worst, nutritionally.

I took off one side of the muffin, took a few bites, and realized it tasted gross. Nothing like it used to, so I guess my taste buds have changed? I threw the rest away and went somewhere else to get some regular snacks to tide me over for later that morning. A small part of me was disappointed. Mentally, I sorta wanted the "treat" of McDonalds. But the disappointment was pretty short-lived. Nothing in the way that sandwich tasted makes me want more.

    lol

(I'd "like" a few of these posts - but the link is missing?!)

I've twice taken my girls to McDs since my surgery. Both times, I asked for a chicken sandwich... and a knife and fork. I lift the bun lid off the top and eat the pattie. I can't eat it all - a result, I think, of a combination of the batter and lettuce. Stealing a couple of fries from either of my girls, whilst they satisfy a craving (salt?), they give me the foamies.

Fast food is not something I yearn for much these days. And when I do, it isn't an experience that ever lives up to expectations.

Taco bell is my fast food kryptonite I agree the amount of I could eat before to now is almost amazing. I barely get through a single burrito now compared to multiple tacos and burritos before.

Sorry I can't send a "like" or "thanks" to your replies, those buttons are missing as of right now.......MAGIC!
Hopefully they will reinstall them once they correct the problem.

To the newbies (I am still one too and even after I am considered an "old-timer", I still will be open for learning), you can still eat within moderation the foods you once enjoyed. I don't have an urge to go to a fast food joint for a while, I got that out of my system for now.
To be honest, I prefer my own prepared burgers, baked fries (actually oven roasted red potatoes made with a little olive oil and spices of our liking) and homemade burritos or tacos.

I wonder if part of the problem why I felt a little McSick was because I haven't been eating heavily processed foods that much since leading up to/post surgery?

For sure. Pretty much everyone I know that stays away from fast food for a prolonged period of time has the same reaction when they try fast food again
I think that should just prove how bad that stuff is for us lol

9-10 months post, I was bringing home McCrap for my roomie and wife, and got a ton of dollar menu stuff. In a weak moment I say "Gee Ken, I should have a Mc Double".. so I ate half of one, and then gobbled on McNiggets. I do not know the count but, puked violently for the next 20 minutes.

So.. did I actually eat McDonalds? Not one piece stayed in LOL

Man, I'm jealous of all your capacity. I've had a 1/4 pounder on two occasions in the last year. No fries, but full bun and tolerated it well. I have a big sleeve. It's a good treat but not even a monthly visit for me. If I do have to go there, I order the grilled chicken sandwich without the bun and no fries. Or the Santa Fe chicken salad grilled, no dressing.

I feel so proud when I order with my husband. He gets the whole big order, and I stand there and say, "I would like the $1 cheeseburger, please". The last time I did that I could almost read the guy's face: "And that's why she's small".
