I have been speaking with a couple of people whom I work with that have had gastric sleeve surgery. We were all sitting at lunch today with our womens health nurse that comes in once a month. We were talking about the surgery because today is the day I weighed myself and realised I had lost 20 kg already (very excited ) Anyway we got on to the subject of pap smears because our nurse is always pushing us to have them on time as she does them there for us at work. One of the women that has had the surgery spoke up and said that she wouldn't dare let her do a pap smear on her as since she has had the operation she has had bad vaginal odour (two years ago). The other girl I was sitting with said that after a couple of months she had the same thing happen. The Nurse then told us that she had two other people have check ups with her that had also had the problem after this type of operation and they had developed what is called "Gardnerella".
It is a bacterial infection that causes a yellow, green or brownish discharge and has an awful odour. She doesn't know why this happens after a couple of months as she doesn't know much about the op but said that it could be due to sudden diet change or medication. She said Gardnerella is very easily fixed you just need to see your GP and he will prescribe a antibiotic which consists of four tablets that you take all at once and the next day or so it will be gone. The poor lady that had been suffering for two years with the condition was nearly in tears. The other friend had already been treated but had no idea it could have been due to the op. When I got home I spoke to another friend about it over the phone and she said the same happened to her and she had no idea it was from the op. So there you go ladies. I'll be keeping an eye on things down there (and a nose) Thought I must share this as it sounds like a common issue yet hasn't been bought up on any forums here yet.
Please let us know if you have had this problem also.
