Surgery in Mexico--Kinda scared......

I am trying to get set up somewhere to get my sleeve done. I want to do it ASAP & have looked at a couple of websites & chatted with them. The one I am considering is through WeightLossAgents.com. Anyone else do this through them? I understand I would fly to San Diego & they will take me to Tiajuana. I was told I will stay at the Hotel Del Rio and if I go alone I will share a room with someone. My 15 year old daughter wants to go with me (we are very close) and she is worried about me going alone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I am in the same boat. I took the plunge and have started the process. I got everything approved by my Dr. and financing was approved. Just need to take care of the downpayment and I can schedule my surgery.

I'm doing the same thing and my Mom is going with me. From what I understand, my mom and I will share a room in a hotel for $60/night.

Sounds like you and I are using the same program. Will you be doing the San Diego to Tijuana? If so who is your doc? Mine is Dr. Almanza.

I will go down there 2/22/15 and have the procedure done on the 23rd. It's the best deal I have seen. And plenty of success stories. I say take your daughter with you.

I'm going to puerto Vallarta and my doctor is Dr hidalgo ,he's with the weight loss team. I really like the way they have handled things so far. You call them they don't bug you with emails like some others do. If you want to know more you can contact me.

I am having surgery with Dr. Almanza January 15. I am taking my husband with me it will cost $60.00 a night for him to. I do like the weight loss agents because if you have any questions they are there for you. They return calls the very next day no matter what time you call. So very excited to get this done. Happy New Year

My best advise to anyone considering having weight loss surgery in Tijuana is do your research!!!! I had my surgery with Dr. Sergio Quinones on January 12, 2013 and it was the best decision I could have made. When I first started doing my research October 2012 my surgeon was going to be someone else. I like most people think "This surgeon does a lot of surgeries so he must be good". Luckily I continued to do my research until I found Dr. Quinones.

A few of the factors that made me have my surgery with Dr. Quinones were: My surgery was performed in a small private hospital were I had my own private room and bathroom. 2) My post-op (3days) were at the hospital not a hotel. 3) Dr. Quinones only performs 3 surgeries maximum daily. 4) The most important was that Dr. Quinones speaks perfect English!!!

I had my procedure done on 12-12-14 in Mexico with Dr Alaverz. I chose him for several reasons. I traveled by myself and have no regrets about my decision. I live on the east coast (NJ) and flying to San Antonio TX rather than San Diego CA was one factor. I stayed in the hospital for two nights. Not sure how the surgeon you are looking into does things however, I assume you would spend at least one night in the hospital. Where would your daughter be that night? Where is she going to be while you are having the procedure and in recovery? You need to rest and take it easy after the surgery, especially the day of. IMHO I would suggest not bringing your little girl with you.

I had my surgery on 12/8/14 with Dr. Sergio Quinones in Tijuana. I went by myself( for me time) & I had a good experience. I went a few days early to explore San Diego.
Dr Quinones and all the staff were very kind. I am an RN and was very happy with my care. He does no more than 3 surgeries a day; on my day it was only 2. I brought a flash drive for a copy of my surgery; it was fascinating to watch. You have a private room, bathroom and room for one guest, free Wi fi , cable TV,and phone usage to call the US.
I had a reaction ( lower GI)to the contrast for the sleeve check on the last day after I checked into the hotel( private hotel room).Dr. Quinones had the driver pick me up from the hotel around 3am and take me back to the Sante Fe Center for more IV fluids and meds. He did not charge anything extra. He just wanted to make sure I was ok. The driver then took me back to San Diego later that day.
I am doing well at home with the dietary changes and I am down 32 pounds.
I would recommend buying Dr. Ducks Vuong's book " Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success"; it has been very helpful.
Also I called my local hospital that has a Baritric Center and went to my first weight loss support group; the leader said it was fine I did not have my surgery there. The meeting was awesome ( one man drives 200 miles each month to attend).I plan to attend the monthly meetings as a tool/support for weight loss.

A couple of things, i am going to dr. Almanza in 2 weeks. I will arrive January 15 for surgery 16. I am going thru weightlossagents.com and i love them. I am the love child of worrywart and control freak. So i call them all the time. I love that all our communications are posted in my patient portal so i can go back and read what we talked about if i forget something. For dr Almanza your guest has to be 18 or older or have an adult with them while you are in surgery. If you go by yourself there's no cost for your room and you will be paired up with a same sex roomie. If you take a friend you must stay in hotel room with them at 60 per night. Which ever choice you make it will a good ones . good luck!

I would stay away from any surgeon that claims to be "world renowned".
