Default How often do you.... pee?

I've noticed that I don't pee very often. Pre-op, I peed all the time. Once I started drinking liquids in the mornings (usually Coke or sweet tea), I peed all day long. Also, I always had to get up at least once in the middle of the night to pee.

Now though, I don't pee often at all. All I drink is water now, because that's really all that tastes decent now. (All others fluids still taste funny to me, but that's another post.) Since surgery, I very, very rarely ever wake up at night to pee. I think I'm getting plenty of fluids, and I have no signs of dehydration.

Has anyone else gone through or noticed this? The dramatic change is starting to freak me out a bit.

I've noticed not having to get up at night either. I think it's because of the weight loss, there is less pressure (weight) against the bladder, so we don't have to go as often. I came to this conclusion due to my surgeon mentioned during the seminar that the surgery and weight loss could eliminate the need for surgery for incontinence. (hope I spelled that right)

Did you take medication for high blood pressure before your surgery? I was taking two different medications to control my blood pressure prior to surgery. One of those was a water pill. I've noticed that I no longer have to go frequently. I attributed it to the fact that I am no longer taking the blood pressure medications.

I do take a blood pressure pill, and my dosage hasn't needed to be adjusted just yet. I don't think it's the water type pill though. I'm glad others have had this, too, because I was about to get paranoid about my kidneys not functioning right!

I noticed that too. I wondered if it was bc I cant hold the liquid i used to, bc i could put away some tea, let me tell you. or was I dehydrated? so I tried to drink more but i there wasnt a big dif. Im wondering if the types of drinks we drink make a dif, tea makes you go so now the water I drink is hydrating me instead of what ever tea does, plus Im not always having to shed fluid bc im no longer puffy from fluid build up. I know, I think too much, I hear it all the time.

I pee when I have too, hehehehe sorry couldnt resist. I know with me I dont pee as frequently at night now because my blood sugar is lower. High blood sugar will make you pee more frequently.

Ali, I think you are okay and that your body is reducing weight which is removing pressure from your bladder, and also your blood sugar and blood pressure may be improving.

This is definitely one to mention to your Dr. at next checkup as kidney health is important.

Me two. The peeing almost stopped. Don't have to get up at night. Love it.

I believe, not 100% sure, that the wt lose uses the fluids you take in to help metabolize the fat thus the decrease in fluid output. However, for me ič working in this ungodly west Texas heat and am drinking twice as much fluids as normal and still only pee a few times a day. Probably sweating the fluid off. I have noticed that the volume is also less. No more monster pees. i'm just glad the nasty taste in my mouth from the ketones is gone.

Also, coke and tea contain caffeine which is a diuretic. So if you aren't drinking them anymore, that would be a big reason you aren't peeing all the time. Also, don't know if you were pre-diabetic prior to surgery, frequent urination is one of the warning signs of diabetes. As you have decreased your sugar content, and lost weight, that would also be a reason to pee less often.
