    Default Thank you Dr. Oz

Dr. Oz in Prevention Magazine October 2011

Dr Oz on Weight Loss Surgery: "Yes. Listen, if you're one hundred pounds overweight at age fifty, you have the same mortality rate as if you have a solid cancer. Would you operate for cancer?"

This is a great response to the naysayers,

I wish he hadn't said "at fifty"...I'm only 31! But it's still a good point - this being monstrously overweight is just as dangerous to my health as a serious disease! I wish my mom would spend some time on this site...maybe she'd understand.

And that's one reason that last year at age 51 I made the decision to start this journey. I want as many years with my loved ones as I can possibly get....
    thanks

AHH, i LOVE THAT! It is probably the truth when you look at all of the diseases obesity causes or contributes to. I worry about having a stroke and ending up in a nursing home. Surgery is just a steppingstone to a better life.

I love Dr. Oz and I agree. I did it to avoid knee surgery, diabetes, fatigue, high blood pressure and also to restart my living. I will have more energy to travel and do fun things and finding clothes won't be an issue. I just put a pair of pants on that I wore to an Aug. 16 wedding and they are loose only 9 days (10 lbs.) later. So excited!

My mom is 64, and since I have been going through all my pre-op tests, i kept her in the loop. I had my surgery on Oct 13th and that night she attended her first information seminar. Im so proud of her. Shes been dieting all my life, and after watching her, I pretty much rebelled against it. This is my answer, and I feel like it is hers also. Her health has suffered so much from yo-yo dieting. Im very happy for her.

Oprah sure knows her experts - She's catapulted so many great 'experts' to rock star status...

Dr Oz, Dr Phil, Rachel Ray, Nate Berkus...Wonder who Oprah would've picked if she had the sleeve done?

Rubyslippers--Our statistics are close. I had to gain 15 lbs to be able to have sleeve surgery. I got up to 205 at surgery, which was on 11/17/2011. I have lost 47 lbs in two months and my goal is 146 so I don't have far to goal. I'm 5'9" so 146 will be fine with me. My BMI is in normal range and I feel so much better.
Can you share with me how your eating habits are now? I'm so sick of protein drinks that I would rather not eat than down another one.
I don't have any cravings for sweets now. Did that happen to you as well? What are your sleeve experiences now that you are 8 months out? Eating out?
Protein foods that work for you, etc. Thanks

I LOVE Dr. Oz!!! I watched his talk show on the plane home from Mexico coincidentally. LOL. Eat chicken to get the protein in. Learn to make it 6-7 different ways you like it. Measure and freeze in small containers. This, tuna fish and baked fish are my saviors to not have to rely on protein shakes all day. I drink one Premier Protein Shake a day, 30g of protein in the morning. $25 for 18 at Costco. Instead of my coffee routine on the way to work I drink my protein shake. By far not an expert but something is working as i've lost 43 lbs in 57 days. Stay the course and get your groove. I get the protein shake out of the way in the morning so I don't dread having to play catch up at night.
