Default Help with Guidelines? Advice for newbie?

I was hoping some of you might share the guidelines from your doctor and/or nutritionist on the amount of the following you should consume daily (both pre-op and post-op)?

    Grams of Protein?
    Grams of Carbs?
    Grams of Fiber?
    Grams of Fat?

So, my boyfriend has been very supportive of my decision to have WLS and will be travelling with me in a couple weeks. I mentioned to him that I was having a hard time finding a protein shake that I like. (They kinda make me gag!)

Him being the nice person he is, went out and bought me a boat load of protein shakes. The problem is, they have 30 grams of Carbs and 18 grams of Sugar each. I do not have the heart to tell him that those are not good for me. I am tempted to just not say anything because I do not want to discourage him from helping me. I know I know, I should just be honest, but I don't want to hurt his feelings either. Has this ever happened to anyone?

Thanks for your help and advice.

Should have like 20 protein and less than 7 grams of carbs (includes sugar carbs).
I use Plant Fusion. It is 21 grams of protein and 4 carbs. I really like it. It is completely plant based without soy, GMO and it is all organic with natural unprocessed sweetners

There are whey protein powders, but it will be hit and miss for you which ones you might like. I purchased On Nutrition's "Gold Standard" whey isolate, it has 24g of protein and only 120 cals. There are many others on the market. If I am low on protein for the day, I will mix up that with 1/2c of Greek yogurt and water and have 34g total of protein (or add milk for more protein and a richer taste) .
Maybe you could get a plain whey isolate protein powder and mix up your own smoothie with a little fruit or add it to your yogurt.
You can try pre-mixed shakes such as "AdvantEdge" by EAS. That has 100 cals, 17g of protein and 3g of carbs.
There are other brands on the market like Atkins, etc.

I was told to have 60-75g of protein a day and a minimum of 64 oz water.
Follow your Dr's orders for what they want for you.

We didn't have those sorts of guidelines pre-op, but my post-op guidelines were:
    protein - minimum 75
    carbs - between 30 and 60
fiber - per govt guidelines, fiber isn't a set number of grams but a percentage of calories consumed - 1.4 percent (14 grams of fiber per 1000 calories consumed). So when I am eating 800 calories per day, I aim for a minimum of 12 grams of fiber.
    fat - 30 grams
My guidelines are a bit different now that I am over a year post-op, but those were the rules for my first year.
As to those protein shakes - IMO you need to get rid of them or at least not drink them. If you need to explain it to your boyfriend, blame it on your doctor/nutritionist if you have to:
"honey, guess what! I told the nutritionist about these shakes and she says I can't drink them! Apparently they have too many carbs and too much sugar! I'm so angry that they didn't tell me earlier!"
Or take a more honest but gentle approach and let him know how much you appreciate it, etc. But in no event would I ever actually drink those things . . . good luck!

I'll update you with what my NUT says tomorrow but I know when it comes to the protein shakes, no more than 5 grams of carbs per the surgeon.

For protein shakes in general my nut and surgeon both recommend following the 5-10-20 rule. Less than 5 grams of fat, less than 10g of carbs and over 20g of protein. I drink mostly ISOPURE bottles which are zero carbs and 40g of protein per 20oz, and V-core powder from complete nutrition. I have tried multiple flavors but like these the most.

My nut said 1000 calories and at least 60-70 g protein. Not concerned about other stats. Although, some of the best forms of protein can cause contipation, so fibre is good. as for Protein shakes. I like a fruitier flavor so I get Syntrax Nectar, and Unjury Strawberry Sorbet. Honestly I'd be more concerned about getting good protein than monitoring your sugar unless your nut says different.

I used premier protein shakes from sams club, chocholate flavor. Then later when I just needed alittle extra protein used the peach flavor at Bariatric Advantage site, it is tasty.

I went with Pure Protein shakes. 1 gram of sugar, 170 calories and 35 grams of protein. I stay away from carbs but this is my choice(diabetic and they are just empty calories).

I am a fan of the Premier Protein shakes. chocolate and strawberry. I get them from Amazon or Costco. My rules are:

Protein and water only (although I don't follow this completely).
Portions should be 3-4 ounces for females (4-5 oz for males).
    60-80 grams of protein.
    No drinking fluids with meals
    64 oz of fluids

I just mentally track 60grams of protein and 64oz of water, and as long as I get that in daily I don't worry about anything else.
